This is an absolute Joke, These Hoon laws are really starting to go too far.
We do have rights you know. and we need to stand up for ourselves and protest against these hugely unfair and grotesque laws.
30 day inpoundment for the first offence Far out that will cost around $2500 in inpound fees.
3 months jail for second offence,
3rd offence car will be crushed.
Other laws have been announced that cars will be crashed on a first offence basis of being found to be driving a "illegally" modified vehicle.
WHAT A LOAD OF S@#T.
A political war has erupted over hoon drivers in Victoria, with the government and opposition both announcing plans to crush the cars of repeat offenders.
Less than a week after the tragic deaths of five teenagers in a horror crash in Melbourne's north, both political parties seized on public sentiment to do more to stop young people dying on the state's roads.
On Friday morning, Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu announced his side would introduce tough new anti-hoon laws if elected at the state poll in November.
He said this would include immediate 30-day vehicle impoundment for a first hoon offence and completion of a safe driving course, up to three months jail for a second offence, and forfeiture and crushing of vehicles for a third offence once parts were stripped and sold.
"We want to send a strong message to those people who would offend and the crushing of cars has worked in other jurisdictions," Mr Baillieu said.
"Hoon driving as a problem is getting worse in Victoria and it has to be addressed.
"We want to send a very strong message to those people who would drive as hoons and who would put themselves at risk and put the community at risk."
Three hours later, Transport Accident Commission Minister Tim Holding announced the government intended to introduce new anti-hoon laws this year that also included crushing cars.
He denied the plan was a reaction to the opposition's announcement, saying Premier John Brumby had already announced earlier this week that all options for dealing with hoon drivers were on the table.
Mr Holding said the opposition's plan was "ill-conceived" and put "political opportunism before sound public policy formulation".
"I can say today that as a government we are willing to crush the cars of dangerous hoon drivers when those cars have been confiscated, in certain circumstances," he said.
Mr Holding said the government was "working through" its policy and "making sure we identify any unintended consequences" from seizing and crushing cars, before a full policy announcement was made.
The initial plan included giving the courts two options for dealing with third time offenders - crushing cars, or selling them.
If a car was sold, the money would pay out any existing debt on the car, and any surplus would be given to victims of crime.
If a vehicle was declared unsafe or had been illegally modified to a point where it was unsafe, it would be crushed.
First time offenders would have their cars impounded or immobilised for a week and second time offenders could have their vehicle impounded for up to three months or lose it forever.
Just 18 months ago Police Minister Bob Cameron criticised another opposition proposal to crush hoon cars as "short-sighted, populist and completely irresponsible".
WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE THIS GOES TO FAR AND WE LOST BECOME VICTIMS OF THESE RIDICULOUS LAWS.
Why protest the laws? Just don't hoon and you don't have to worry about loosing your license or getting your car crushed. Works great for most of us.

Please i will say this now, i am NOT excusing hooning. but they are now targeting car enthusiasts.
People doing burnouts, excessive speeding, dragging, drifting etc outside of the track. Yes enforce the law on them. but they are now wanting to start crushing cars for "illegal" modification

The law is the law, if your car is 5mm too low you have two options, get it fixed, or risk your car being crushed. Same deal for engine mods, you can do it by the book and have it cleared by VicRoads (or whatever your local road authority is), or you can fly by night and take the risk someone will notice.

Oh, so this is a new hoon law cruise?
WHO CARES. Wait till you lose your P plates, you won't need to worry about police targeting you, because the minority of Poo platers are ruining it for the rest of you.
Deal with it, or get the train / tram / bus. Sooking in a thread on a Commodore forum won't help you.
As soon as i got my full license, the cops haven't looked twice at me in my SS Ute. At the risk of sounding selfish (which i couldn't care less about), i don't give a toss whether P platers get targeted, as i can drive whatever car i like now (providing it's roadworthy and street legal). I get looked at like a normal driver now, when i drove my Commodores on my P's, cops looked at me ALL the time.

how many people each year are killed due to hooning related incidents and how many due to drink driving, be realistic for **** sake
if my car is going to be taken from me and crushed...well good luck on me pulling over.
i now regret posting as clearly people reading are not in the same boat as me and are sick or being targeted for doing nothing wrong. as always minority rules and destroys it all for the rest of us doing nothing wrong.
target drink driving not p plate drivers driving a commodore.
We've all been there (P-plates) and been outraged because we got picked on, stereotyped, etc etc
Then you graduate to your open license and you realise it's not such a big deal, and post of the time P-platers deserve or need to cop an earful anyway to keep them in check.
Just pull your head in for a couple of years and you'll get over it and realise you were having a big whinge about nothing.
As for drink drivers, sure, crush their cars too - they deserve it.

Not everyone, I think hoon laws are daft. I also don't think "the law is the law" suck it up. Just because it's the law doesn't make it right or we'd still hang kids for stealing apples. Confiscation of vehicles is unfair as everyone is punished widely differently for the same offense. If I "hoon" in a $200 dollar unsafe rusted out heap and have it confiscated, that's my extra fine.. $200. If It "hoon" in a new $150,000 walkie my extra fine is $150,000! I could even be a parents car. Where hooning can be as simple as a bit of a screech of your tyres or stepping out a bit in the wet, to driving at 350Km/h. Laws that do not take into account the severity of the offence are just stupid. Everyone makes mistakes and that mistake needs to be judged according to the severity of what occurred. This sort of stuff has always happened and always will, 30 years ago it wasn't even an issue, not even 20 or 10. It's just the new witch hunt.
Not to mention they are going on the hooning bandwagon again when the guy wasn't even supposed to be driving, just like a few of the last bad ones. They still do it no matter what.
No point arguing in here thoughJust my 2 bobs worth. Carry on!

While I agree with the majority and say suck it up, if its true about the 30 days jail for second offense then I must call unfair. Some people have multiple assault offenses for example, to thier name and haven't been to jail so hooning (which still doesn't have a clear definition) shouldn't either.

-Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short Phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Ronald Reagan (1986)
The idea is if you can afford a $150,000 car and are dumb enough to hoon in it, you can afford a $150,000 fine. In some countries fines for any offence (not just traffic) are levied against your taxable income, so basically rich people pay bigger fines - it's actually a better system IMO because the penalty is proportionate to the perpetrator's means, and therefore maintains its deterrence effect. A fixed fine will have very different meanings to people depending on their income.

Anyone thinks this is a good thing needs their head checked, you don't have to be a 'hoon' to get targeted under this law. Hell last year an old lady got done under the hoon laws because she was driving to slow and wouldn't pull over lol.
I know for one, if I knew my car was going to be crushed I would not stop for anyone or anything. This will be the case for alot of drivers, more deaths will most likely result from this law, despite the fact 'hooning' only represents 2% of accidents in Australia. So much effort for such small problems.
