    Default SlimLine HID Xenon kits

    Hi All,

Sorry if I've posted in wrong section (move if wrong), it's not commodore related, but it is car related.

I'm thinking of getting a SlimLine HID kit for my Toyota MR2. I like to have the best lighting while on the streets, we in perth have some pretty dodgey suburbs with like 1 light post per 500m or none at all.

I'm looking at these at the moment, $200

H4 SLIM LINE XENON HID KIT 6000K toyota mr2 all - eBay Bulbs Lenses, Lights Lighting Accessories, Car Tuning Styling, Vehicle Parts Accessories. (end time 27-Feb-10 17:08:19 AEDST)

6000K is legal in australia right? 8000k aren't correct? 6000k will give the best lighting? HID kits are legal aswell ye? Does anyone know where you can buy them which aren't from ebay?

I just love the way other motorists on the highway think it's an unmarked cop car.........

most of the cars i bring in with aftermarket HID's need their headlight lenses replaced. there is only so much heat plastic lenses can take before they crack. also the silver paint inside the headlamps tend to flake off.

    i wouldnt do it, personally.

Ye I've read you have to have Projector Headlights. I've found a black pair for $90 to suit the MR2.

Do they make a noticable difference? HID to standard halogen?

Can some one make up a sticky what can and cannot be done in regards to headlights? This question seems to come up an awful lot.

Ah rudd. Sorry. I did make a search tho. I searched HID and Headlights. Didn't really know what how to search the question about the colour of the globes (4300k, 6000k etc).

HID's are banned through out Australia unless you fit auto levelling and a way to keep headlights clean.

Ahh crap. That ruins all my plans. So whats the best way to get best lighting legally?

Getting the Projectors would still be beneficial right? (to replace the genuine headlights) then I guess some H4 Phillips 4200K Halogen globes is the best I could get right?

But in saying that, not many ppl ever have a problem with them, from my experience that is. As for 6000K being pure white? Yes for the driver it is, for the oncoming traffic its a sliiight tinge blue from an angle. Personnally 5000K, but 6000K tend to be fine, ive heard alot of stories of cars going over pits with 6000K and passing, but i'd run 5000K to be safe, to be legal 4200K. Also as for the amount of heat being generated thats the analog ballasts, they tended to run a bit hot, took awhile to heat up too. That one is digital btw. Also most ppl like to run 55kW ballasts, as they tend to have a better ability to blind oncoming drivers even using low beam. 35kW is better, as it runs less heat than the 55kW ballasts as well. So.. TBH with you, sounds like a good deal for H4's. But in saying that to buy in Aus at a store, u'd b looking at $250? so, if thats any help.

    Just my red cent.

Edit: Considering your in Perth mate, have a look at some of the car shops in Westfield Carosel, I think they where doing a deal on H4 HID kits not long ago. Otherwise Autobarn, Repco, maybe even Malz. Unsure on the last. But, they all tend to stock stuff for HIDs as they are becoming more popular.

Why make your car a defect in the hope you will get away with it?

That's a good way to get in trouble isn't it? Your failing to ensure the car's are up to ADR standards as per your importing licence or something?
