    Default Moronic Neighbour Advice

    Hi guys,

Sorry for the long story, but I need some advice. I'm kinda concerned for my property and myself.

Yesterday afternoon I got home from work and had a few heavy things in my car. I parked in front of the Letterbox (25b stroughton road westminster - Google Maps) (The signs aren't there anymore) and all I wanted to do was carry the items down to my parents place (I still live there aswell). Next minute my neighour (first house)(I live in the second house behind) starts yelling out to move my car right now, I explain to him I'm just carrying some things to my house and it will be gone in 10 minutes, he comes right up to my face with his fist raised (he's a big bloke (3 times my size) and slightly taller than me, shaved hair and tattoos all over (drives a ford ute)) and says to move it again, every second word is F***ing. Nyway, I stand my ground and try to tell him again that it's there for 10 minutes and it was government property anyway and that he wasn't using it at the time, he then says his friend is coming over (his mate ended up coming over bout 1hr later). Nyways, I tell him to stop threatening me and I walk off (locked my car & continued bringing in my stuff) and told him not to speak to me. Nyway, I took my stuff in and came back out, he's still waiting there and I get in my car and move it. (I usually park across the road on the grass area before the bus stop, so he doesn't whinge). The guys got a real temper and he was on the edge of hitting me, he was swearing and what not. Anyway, later on I go out and him and his mate are out there and the guy explained what happened and they were laughing and thinking he was all tough etc.

Also, my parents unit is a double garage (they have 2 cars) and I have my car. Because I'm in a unit and the middle one at that. I don't have a drive way to park my car because the people behind need to get past. The neighbour says why don't you park on your driveway, I asked him if he knew where I lived because it was impossible to park there. Moron (didnt say that).

While he was yelling at me, he asked if I put the rubbish on that area the other day, (he doesnt realise it's bulk rubbish collection (even though all down the street people got rubbish on the verge)) I say nah,it's prob the 3rd house (theres 3 units in a row), he picks up the few things and throws it on the next door neighbours rubbish collection. Moron. He thinks he owns that land, we don't have a verge because we are behind him so there is no other option the idiot.

O, my dad came out just after I moved my car and tried to talk to me, but he wouldn't listen to a word, and played it like nothing had happened between me and him. By the way, I'm 21 and he's like 30 or something.

Anyway, here's the problem, this guy has a real temper and thinks he's the man in the world. I'm worried about mine and my girlfriends car being egged, scratched, or tires slashed because of this idiot (or his mates). I also think that if we ever cross paths again he'll go off his nut again etc and might actually hit me this time. So what do I do? I'm moving out in 6months, and I don't want any more problems for my parents. So I don't want to involve the police etc about threatening me. But I don't want my property damaged because of him or his mates either. I didn't raise my voice or provoke him in any way either. (Wish he did hit me so I can actually do something so a file will be made and if something does happen to my car he will be the first suspect).

Whats some advice? If I involve the police or something and they inform him, he'll just get someone to do something to the cars or something. Because it's on the other side of the street, it could look like anyone had done it.

dude... real sucky situation, but a leopard doesnt change its stripes. he's an arse, and by the sounds of it always will be.

you said yourself you are moving in 6 months. stay out of his way and ride it through. just remember that karma will catch up with this guy, and one day he'll pick on the wrong guy. there's always someone bigger and badder- and unfortunately for him, he'll come across a guy who certainly wont take his crap attitude.

unless he actually hits you or makes serious threats to do so, or you have video or photos proving that he is responsible for any future damage to your property, the police cant do anything for you. video footage of him threatening you will certainly help though .

but there's two roads you can take.... get angry and waste your time and energy worrying about scum like this, or dont think anything more of it and move on with your life. personally I dont think he's worth the trouble.

if you have legitimate concerns about your property, either move it away or set up security cameras or something. but ask yourself this, even with video footage you really think your problems are going to go away?

this guy will get what's coming to him. in the meantime, stay out of his way. you'll be gone in 6 months, and if your parents choose to live there even though he's threatened you like that, then maybe thats an issue you need to speak to your parents more about.

he sounds like a real piece of work, sorry you have to deal with a ******** like that.

Hmm so I shouldn't tell the police or anything?

Just hope nothing happens to my car thats all, especially not my girlfriends. She's got a 07 Toyota Camry Altise.

I think I did pretty well keeping myself together yesterday. My whole body was shaking with rage, just wanted to smack him one. I'd probably lose because he'd just sit on my and break my bones cause he so fat . Now everytime I see him I bet I'll have to listen to his stupid remarks.

Hate people that try to intimidate others.

They are always so dumb these people. He was telling me that from his house to the road is his... so that would include the 3 units letterboxes aswell :S

So I shouldnt contact the council? I've got a mate working at the City of Stirling (so I should be able to get all the information about government part of the land) & I work at a Law Firm (who presents the Councils in court (we mainly deal with governement & planning law, but deal with parking prosecutions and things aswell). But I think that's probably going to cause more trouble than good.

Just fustrates me to hell that these f*cktards get the satisfaction from it. Now he thinks he won.

Police won't do anything, or want to get involved until something actually happens.

Just ignore him, don't even acknowledge his presence if you walk past him. He will get sick and tired of it soon as you won't be taking the bait.

They wouldn't even make a note on the incident? I know they wouldn't come out etc, I thought they mighta just put a note in the system and atleast if something did happen It would have been noted and they would be able to see who was at to blame or something?

Like if I rang em up and told them what happened and that night my tires got slashed wouldn't there be enough to get him for it?

Its possible but only if he admits it or you have proof.

When I went to the local police station to talk to the cops about options regarding my asshole neighbour, they advised me to not get in his way or aggravate him. They told me that I should try and resolve the situation myself (which you have tried to do) and its in my court unless it gets really serious. There was another thread on here which I would think would qualify as serious.

I don't think they would keep notes on a verbal stoush, but if he actually hit you then yeah, thats different.

mate, if you are concerned about records... keep a diary yourself.

make an entry for each occasion (day time) you've had a confrontation with him. this very forum is good evidence as well, as it clearly states time of post- and you mentioned "yesterday afternoon" in your initial post.

you are asking for advice for something that has happened. in a few weeks or months if something happens and you need to escalate matters, this very thread will prove that something has happened in the past and that you were concerned enough about it to ask for advice.

but like I said... keep away from him. its not about letting him "win" anything.... because what's he won? an intimidation match over someone half his size? woooo.... big tough guy!

keep it as cival as you can, and dont antagonise him. if something actually happens, call the cops. you dont have to live your life around his actions either though. if he's out the front, just walk by him. dont even look at him.

I suppose so. Why did the nurse have to move out?! I used to park there all the time when the nurse lived in that unit. I can't wait to move into my own home, with my own garage.. out of the weather, away from morons.

Well, I'll just have to ignore him then. Nothing more I can do. Just hope he doesnt do anything to the cars. I'll just be counting down the days.

Yeah it sucks but there are always assholes out there determined to make life difficult for others.

Does he actually own the place or is just renting?

If it weren't for your parents living there, and he continued hassling you, I would be tempted to lob some old engine oil over his fence onto his nice driveway as a parting gift, but only if he owned the place.

Avoid him and don't antagonise him. I was taught a form of ninjitsu by a 3rd dan black belt and even he didn't go looking for fights. You can never anticipate your opponents mind set and whether or not they have been using drugs. Short of a hammer between the eyes nothing's going to stop someone off their face on methamphetamines. Maybe inform the police so they have an idea of what is going on and and tell them that you don't wish anything to be done about him at this stage. Who knows maybe they already have a file on him and he may be on probation. Another nail in the coffin for drop kick neighbour. Do yourself a favour and learn some form of credible self defence. Something that includes grappling, street fighting, wrestling, and boxing. Don't bother with judo, karate, and the like as they are mostly for show. Who kicks for the head anymore honestly. I'd have you before you managed to get your foot off the ground. Good luck and be safe.

I do Freestyle Martial Arts (Green Belt atm) and Mixed Martial Arts. Done Jujitsu aswell. The only thing is, cause he's fat and stuff and taller than me, I didn't know how I'd go about it. How do you beat a fat person? punch him and probably feels like jelly lol. I thought I'd just try to get some arm locks or other jujitsu move. I like the rear naked choke, but cause he got a fat head don't think I'd get it on. Then I thought I'd just do the girlie way and just kick him in the nuts haha.

You can lodge an incident report with the police and probably wise to do so. They wont take action unless you want them to but the point of lodging it is that if you report these things everytime he does something like this it is all on record and if he ever goes too far then you have more of a leg to stand on with any legal issues you may wish to pursue with him.

I bet if you got into a scuffle with him and used some of your moves he would never go near you again.Just because he is tall and fat doesnt mean he can fight.

absolutely correct. otherwise he will say that you started it and they won't know who to believe - a prior complaint puts you in good standing.

diarise ALL incidents .........if no more happen all is good ,in this politically correct day and age you could take an AVO out against him ........thats the simple way
avoiding him will not help as he will know that by not seeing you he has won anyway so when he does see you next it will all start again !
just go about your business as best you can and stay out of his way where possible ....do not avoid him however !
he will not change ..............he will do the same to the next person .....and the person after that ......this i know as it happened to me
go see a chamber magistrate and ask their advice ! police are bloody useless until you have been physically attacked .......
above all DIARISE ALL events !

Now the topic is getting more interesting- and into an area I can actually give some good advice on. I know it's off topic, but in the hypothetical situation of actually needing to defend yourself, big and fat isnt a very good defence from someone who knows even a little bit about as martial arts as you do.

Taking him down by the nuts when defending yourself from someone much larger than you isnt 'girlie'. What is girlie is him picking a fight with someone much smaller than him- a bully. If he does that, all bets are off in a 'gentlemans fight'. The nuts are a good vulnerability... as are the eyes and ears, the front of the throat, the solarplexus, upper rib cage (either the skin or the ribs themselves), side of knees (chop them like a tree), and even the ridge of ones foot (jumping on it with your heel if he grabs from behind).

Don't listen to the advice about Judo and Karate being useless. Any martial art will be better than nothing- and each have their own benefits and limitations. Judo has superior grappling and throws, whilst karate has excellent strike techniques. Strictly speaking, Brazilian Jujitsu is a terrific allround Art for situations akin to 'street fighting', but that's not to say that other Arts are any worse or better. Strategy and technique is most important. Know your Art's pluses and minuses.

I'm very proficient in Hapkido for instance. We don't have tournaments and a huge arsenal of big kicks like Taekwondo, (even though the syllabus has some similarities) because Hapkido works best when defending from attacks and having the opponent overextend themselves- not us attacking them (which is Hapkido's weaker link). And a lot of Hapkido's strengths are in submission with locks and pressure points. However leave a Taekwondo 'kicker' open space, and those kicks will finish you off very quickly. Strategy.

My point is, a persons weight or size does have an influence in a fight, but that influence disipates very quickly as fighting skill of the opponent (in any Art) increases. Just hope he isn't well trained in an Art as well though (doesnt sound like it as he has a really bad and overconfident attitude). I'm a little bigger than the average bear as well (though not 'fat' so to speak) so my size helps me avoid a lot of situations escalating... but like I already said in a previous post, there is ALWAYS someone bigger and badder.

    Interesting turn of topic .

    Lol'z, Leopards have spots.

Just ignore him. worst comes to worse and he hits you - get him charged and a restraining order then he'll have to move out.

Btw; the bigger they are the harder they fall. Kick him in the balls and then see who the big man is. (yes, I condone ball-kicking it the big-guy vs. little-guy scenario)

    Excellent points UFO

I did kickboxing for a few years, but still never passed up an opportunity to kick someone in the nuts or clap my palms over their ears if it were the easier option.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall

I have to agree with filing a police incident report. I did on my ex for years, everytime he touched me i went and put in a report. ther eis a huge file on record that has actually come out to help me in the past.

As long as it's documented and you have the dates and times down, you'll be fine. but definately write it all down and report it !!

Whenevet you see him, just be polite and say "G'day". you're just being nice and there is nothing he can do about that.

But seeing as you are only there for another 6 months, and then you're parents are there afterwards anyway, it's a really good idea to go and report it and have it on file, plus keep your report number they will give you in a safe place for future references.
