Hi everyone,
Just heard today that the Qld Govt are going to increase the Gateway Toll in July to $3.95 per crossing, couple that with the expected Clem 7 Tunnel Toll & the new Go Between Bridge Toll over the Brisbane river at South Brisbane & future toll increases on the Logan motorway this is getting ridiculous and coupled with the increases in Electricity, fuel, rego, food and other day to day expenses the cost of living in QLD is getting out of hand.
It also seems the Federal Govt are looking at Tax reforms as well and want some implemented as soon as possible like heavier tax’s for the Rich, well I’m not Rich but work dam hard & earn a very good wage (over $150k+pa) so I pay more tax now as it is and in the future will get hit with more raising costs and bigger Road tolls…..just starting to wonder what the both state & fed Governments direction are by pissing off Tax payers & road users with increased costs.
I have an VY SS, VT V6 & a Tarago 4 cyl at present it costs me over $1k to rego the SS, $800 for the V6 & just under $600 for the Tarago, you can’t use the “oh the 4cyl is more economical” argument as its not, my SS is far better on Fuel.
Sorry for the rant, but seriously where will it end? It would be cheaper for me to quite my high paid job, earn around the $80k mark pay less tax ( Govt loose out) and still come out close to what I have now except we are hit with greedy companies hiking up the Tolls to the point where we will just stop using these roads and go back to clogging up the other arterial roads around them and use more fuel and add more pollution to the environment.
Just had to get it off my chest.

You forgot to add that news report about electricity going up 67% if the ETS goes through. I had my gps turned off and missed the turn off to avoid the clem7 tunnel, even though they aren't charging a toll yet. I'm concerned because one lane was closed, and something must have been up with the extractor fans as it was smokey/hazy from exhaust. I tend to use my gps whenever i travel south of the river and it asks me whether i want to avoid tolls so the gps pays for itself really.

Mate, at the end of the day, if you earn more than the average wage then state and federal Labor are going to screw you over.
One example was the solar rebate. I actually was going install a system in my house, until the pricks means tested it up to $100k a year. Stuff paying the full cost, which was huge compared to the subsidised cost.
I have a V8, it sits in the shed for most of the year and I get to pay $1k a year in rego and ctp, because this idiotic government charges per cylinder, not by the weight for passenger cars.
I work in the mining industry so I feel your pain.
I fully expect to be bent over when it comes to the Henry Tax Review.
Thank christ we have a senate that will probably knock most of it on the head anyway, if it has to go through the senate.
I am actually starting to think that QLD Labor have eclipsed the incompetance of NSW Labor.

Did you hear how much light commercials will cost on the gateway and the clem7? $5.xx on the gateway and $6.xx in the tunnel. So not only do i get shafted with rego because i need a ute for work (and its a v8 ute at that) now ill also get shafted on all the roads to make traffic better. Did you see on the news last night that the clem7 going between shafston and the icb was 1 whole whopping minute faster for how many billions of dollars spent. It's beyond stupid now
Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table, because he only recognizes the element of surprise
clem7 will be $13 for trucks..... they gotta make back the ridiculous money they spent on playing in the sandpit.....
but everyone's SOOOOO happy campbell got the hole open 9 months early
this $5 toll is laughable. i can see people avoiding the tunnel when the tolls start, i for one wouldn't be happy about paying $45 extra a week to avoid traffic. sad truth is people will pay it, the tunnel will get congested and it'll be just like the roads it's built to replace, except you'll be paying for the privilege

i use the logan motorway every day.
even though you have to pay to use it i think its more economical to use.
both in fuel and time
The tunnel is a great idea.
Although its only just the start of what is really needed.
I wont be useing it, as it is i avoild all tolls where i can now. Even if it means going out of my way to do so.
Thats just me, I dont like paying for a road i already paid for with REGO and TAXES.
It just isnt right.
Agreed, I already pay over $70K in tax's each year, I've paid my road tolls & rego's on all my cars and I will avoid the Tolls where possible and just add more carbon to the enviroment stuck sitting in traffic with all the other Mugs like me who are making a stand.
I truely hope that people not only in QLD but elsewhere make a stand and for one day and stop using all toll roads Australia wide to send a message to the Governments both State & Federal that we are at the point of " fair suck of the sav boys" we are sick of being gouged out off our hard earn money.

Must be some sort of competition between them i'm thinking. Or it could be a three stooges style scenario.
As i said in my post, when i went through it was reduced to one lane and we were travelling at 5 to 10 km/hr for a couple of kilometres, then at 40 to 50 for another couple of kilometres and when we cleared the obstruction even though it's an 80km/hr zone people sat at 60km/hr until the first exit. What a freakin joke, even if it was necessary and i wanted to pay the exhorbitant fees to travel thorugh the clem7 i wouldn't bother, just as bad above ground with a few traffic lights mixed in for fun and games.
