    THIS.

In states where exemption is needed to drive super/ turbo /v8 - most just lie and get exemption, very easy to do it seems.

Yep, i drove around in a VS Senator for a while. Cops busted me and told me i couldnt drive it when i knew well that i could. Got a written and signed letter from HSV stating the kerb weight etc, took a photocopy of the car specs from my HSV owners compendium, wrote a letter and sent the defect back to the TMU headquarters in the city. They checked it all out and cancelled the defect a week later. They reckon most of the Vicroads rego stickers have one baseline weight for all VS HSV's (in my case), which state the weight for a normal VS 5 litre, not a Senator, Clubby etc, which was alot different. I also took the info from my compendium into Vicroads where they issued me a rego sticker with the cars CORRECT weight.

Now i just drive a 5.7 litre V8, ahhhh, the joys of a full license.

He gets in his car and drives? Not much to it.

Just because laws exist doesn't mean people will follow them. Maybe he just hasn't been caught yet. Either that or he drives down from the A.C.T. everyday.

I'm not really familiar with P plater power/cylinder laws like this, they don't exist where I live.

Not in Victoria you can't. So he's either gained an exemption or flouting the law.

Riight, then we'll be getting the "OMG the pigga's keep puling meh ovah all dah time coz i'm drivin a V8. But i haz exempton, so dey shud leve me alone ey" posts.

Why make life harder for yourself then it needs to be?
I think most young blokes should just chill for the four year stint, save the pennies and buy a nice car when they graduate from the P's. Rather then piss around with older v8's just so they can drive one.
No one cares about your "f**k you" statements. Most just laugh about the added stress you bring yourself.

    Have fun though.

what added stress, most p platers are going to be pulled over a few times regardless of what they drive anyway.

nah, new laws state that you can't drive a v8 regardless of power to weight.

P plates & probationary prohibited vehicles : VicRoads

but i don't quite understand the ops question. unless i missed something and minority report became a reality, how are the police to know that this guy is driving his vehicle around without catching him first? magic powder? here's a good quote for you: "you can get away with anything before you get caught"

I was exempt as i was under the old P plater rules before these new gay ones came in. I am 25 now.

Correct, under the new laws, P platers can't even put an exhaust on their V6.

what im trying to say is most p platers get pulled over for being lowered or having some big rims on there cars right?well how come this kid can drive a round in a v8 vs on his p plates which is far from being stock and not have any hassles?

  15. Default

how do you know he doesn't have any hassles? did he tell you this personally? do you know the circumstances regarding the vehicle? do you know how far and where he drives and if he's ever been pulled over? i don't see the point...

I had a mate that had his NSW P's but his car was registerd in VIC because he worked there, this is going back over 11-12 years ago when NSW didn't have restrictions on the size of the motor (not sure if they do now), but he would get pulled up by the police a lot but they couldn't book him because he had his NSW P's.

Four years? Christ thats harsh, its only three here in QLD. Four years may not sound very long to you, but when it's between you and something you really really want, its a damn long time. Besides, whats wrong with driving an older v8?

here in SA we're about to get massively screwed by our 'mike rann me too' p plate laws. they voted them in calling them anti hoon laws, with no description. they voted them in saying there will be performance restrictions for p plates without disclosing how it will owkr. last time i checked you had to prove why i a law was needed to enact it. instead of just having something voted in and then writing your own description to it.

i already cop enough crap from the cops over my VR v6... well before these new laws come in in july... i could go get a turbo or a v8 and get exempted. because it means i cant have a nice car for another 23 years. but... my next cars gonna be a VT calais. a really nice car... its not gonna need an exemption and i cant see myself being picked on much in it. because i want to be able to make it to my full license instead of being targeted like i get atm.

Im still getting my SS or GTR. but until then im getting my Calais, surviving on my license and getting my hot ride when i can afford her and wont get targeted by sapol.. well ill still have p plates up so i will still get targeted, but its not gonna be like atm where they see me crusing around with a sports exhaust and custom wipers / sports kit and think hey another notch for my belt.

Personally I don't care what P platers drive and think the P plate restrictions are pointless and discriminatory. If one is an adult and classed as such they should be treated as such. Anyway, there are restrictions but I see P platers driving around Lismore in Subarus and Skylines going pshhh and Commodore 5.7 litres and obviously not their parents cars. Good on 'em as long as they drive properly. I know if I was on P plates I'd do all in my power to drive the car I wanted to. And no.. My son doesn't get to drive my SS I bought him a Honda civic but if he puts his cash away and buys his own SS, more power to him.. Pun intended

No-one has mentioned he probably is on the OLD licensing system. All these restrictions only apply to NEW p platers after the law has been introduced.....

Thus legal to drive what he likes

And on the comment of 'just stick out the 4 years', i dont see the why they should have to. I got to drive a V8 when i first got my license, and havn't crashed, so why shouldn't other be given that opportunity aswell
