So after seeing this post -
The eBay lolz thread
And having a good laugh at this thread on another car forum-
selling your car and crazy low balling buyers stories - Hardtuned.net
I was wondering if any of you have had any crazy stories where people have tried to buy your stuff by giving you ridiculous and stupid offers, or swaps for things that you would never take, or the buyers that go "what is your lowest price", or the ones that try to knock off 50% of the asking price if they pay cash. I must say, I have seen it plenty on here.
Well my VX Commodore. I ended up getting the assistance of the fraud squad and all, this guy was nuts lol, trying to threaten me into selling it for $2000 via Ozction.
I sold my VX Calais V8 to a guy wearing gang patches, he spend about 10mins looking at the Calais, didn't test drive it. Then he paid in cash (close to $16k) from rolls of it his bag and wanted to drive away right then with no change of ownership .... scared the crap outta me!![]()
If computers have no doors or fences, who needs Windows and Gates?
I think everybody who has bought/sold a car will have a tale to tell.
I was checking out a VT SS for my brother a few years back. It was advertised at 10.5K. I took it for a drive & got chatting to the owner.
Here's a tip, you can learn a lot about a sellers circumstances by listening.
This guy had split from his mrs, & had finally got the SS back from her. She had the car for 2yrs. He had just lost his liscence & needed cash. My kind of seller
Anyway.....during the test drive, i noticed a bit of tyre squeel when entering the servo. Closer inspection found that it needed a castor/cambe kit in the rear. The stereo didn't work, & it needed little bits replaced. Nothing major.
I started rattling off $$$ figures to repair the car, & the owner looked a little shattered. Clearly he wasn't mechanically minded. All he wanted was cash.
I said to him....."I'm interested in the car, but not for the advertised price." So he says, "Make me an offer".
I said......well......let's start with an '8'.......& you fill in the rest of the numbers!
We drove it home that night for 8.5K, & the seller put another 6mths rego on it for us.![]()
One my old boy always tells from a few years ago.
We had a Ski boat in the paper for $3000.
The usual, 350 chev etc etc etc.
A guy come up had a look over it and was real pleased with it.
He got talking to dad and said 'Would you take $3500?'
Dad looked at him and said '..yeah?'.
The guy happyily handed the money over wrote out a receipt and on his way he went.
He must of looked at another ad in the paper and got mixed up haha.
Dad was quite dazed..
When i put my VS on carsales i got so many stupid trade offers like "hey man would you trade for a VL?" or the best one was "hey mate would you trade for a VC with a genuine 60,000 miles"
stop droolin
in the trading section a few weeks ago a guy was selling a mint vx senator, and someone offered him a straight swap for a vy exec. no offence to the guy that did it, but come on![]()
hahahaha... same thing happened to me!
selling an old hatchback years ago, i was asking $3900.... came to see car and asked would I take $4500?
After umming and arring, I said "you got a deal at $4600".
i looked back in the paper, and sure enough the car below me was priced at $5250 (different year model and everything!).
it's not dishonest to take a higher price than you are asking. silly people throwing money away. maybe they really really want the car.
Selling my Vr at the moment on Ebay, got a text message from a person named 'Melissa', was very legit, asking a question about the car and asking if I could email some more pictures and send a bit more info to her via her email (which was a gmail account). I sent away and get a reply from her the following day. First 2 paragraphs of her reply were fine, you know like about the car and sounding very interested. Last paragraph she says it is a bit hard for her to get time off work and living in the UK she can't just come and look at it. But she said the shipping company will inspect the car for her and take it off my hands for me. Needless to say I never replied to her. But seriously, the buy it now price is $2500, what would posses her to get it shipped over to the UK, it is only a VR hahaha..
Oh I also had an offer of a manual 1989 ford laser hatch, plus cash his way.. my reply "Lol no thanks"
was selling my vs calais and a guy emailed me saying if i wanted to swap him with an huyandai excel. answer "no"

Ive had no issues up until I sold my old BMW
E36 318i, lowered, cream leather interior, pretty clean.. heaps of k's. Wanted to get rid of it pretty quick so I undercut everyone else on carsales and put it up for 6500. Overall it took about 2 months to sell, but it was quite amazing how many enquiries I had. First night I had it for sale, had a guy ring me and offer 4k cash over the phone, said he'd pick it up that night, like the guy who posted a few above me, it was like 9.30/10pm. Had a number of swap offers (almost swapped for a V8 soarer though)
After having it for sale for about 3 weeks had a guy and his mate come around for a look.. They must have been here easily an hour, drove it about 3 times, went off for a coffee, came back for another 20 minutes, the guy kept telling me how he used to have one and he had this problem and that problem, went of for another coffee? never came back.
Ended up selling it to a nice bloke about a month after that which was all smooth sailing in the end.. man that busted my balls trying to sell a cheap BMW though.
I was recently test driving a few SS's and the average trade-in price for my VY Exec was around the 4.5 - 5.5k range (i'd never trade in)
one stealership said they wouldn't pay anything over $1500 for it..
Check out my ride!
When I was selling my VLT I was offered silver bullion.
