Monash University study finds three out of four drivers believe 100km/h is too fast
THREE in every four drivers think 100km/h is too fast for country speed limits and have voted for a cut to 90km/h, a study has found.
The Monash University study of 4100 drivers - 1175 in South Australia - has been a breakthrough for road safety experts, who have battled the unpopularity of speed limit reductions.
Adelaide University centre for automotive safety research Professor Mary Lydon welcomed the results which showed, finally, a trend towards acceptance of lower limits by the driving public.
She said until recently, the major difference between the motoring public and road safety experts was the need for speed reduction.

I'd be interested to know how much these people were paid to say cut the limit, adn if they weren't paid, how long they've lived ina retirement village

I think it is too slow.

Its too slow in my experience.

Anyway lucky South Australians don't influence our laws or we would be all up the shit right :P
oh i dunno... SA still doesnt have the power to weight restrictions for p platers..YET!
buit imagine this, im 230 k's from adelaide, throw in the traffic, roadworks and 30 minutes of 80 zones till im on the highway, theres minimum 3 hours to get to adelaide....
imagine if they added another half hour just by dropping the speed limit to 100??? faaaaaaark they would need 3 driver reviver sites on the sides of the road just incase you need a coffee hit lol
I bet that percent were city drivers too...
Try having to travel more than 20ks a day and tell yourself 100 is too fast
i personally think if people cant control a car at 100kph on an open road they shouldnt have a licence in the first place
Unfortunately we have to cater for the lowest common denominator, who is getting dumber by the week. Won't be long til freeways are 90...
on some roads 100lph is to fast ....on other roads 110kph is to slow ..............always been the same way and always had the same answer boredom sets in on many roads
comes back to the same old story governments all around manipulate whatever they want to ....and we vote for them !
Where I live, some of our highways 'used' to be 110km/h, they dropped them to 100, against a lot of opposition to keep it at 110.
It's like 100km or more between towns out here, so 100 is too slow, causing fatigue, and accidents.
well those 1 in 4 people should just 90 in a 100 zone and everything will be fine![]()
No matter what your circumstances, no matter who you are - everyone deserves second chances
Why the hell are we cappering to useless people!?
Set a standard and make the populace caper to it!
OR "this bag of nuts MAY contain traces of nuts"
100 Is too slow, But they may as well cut it down, I'm sick of double lane roads "left for over taking" being full of stupid morons going 80 - 90kmph and holding up the "over taking lane"... So many people really don't know how too drive, And Our roads are pretty damn safe for 100kmph, So If you think it's too fast then Maybe we should look at taking your license, If you can't handle 100 on a highway / road that's allowing 100, Then you shouldn't be driving.
I never speed, But I always stick too the speed limit, I'm so sick of people driving slow on our roads, Why on earth do these people have licenses?
So really, It doesn't matter if they cut down the speed limit, It will just make the slow drivers drive even slower.... "Oh the speed limits 90 now, I must drive 75 - 80"
And you do realise if you drive too slow under the limit police can actually pull you over? I don't care if they want too drive way under the speed limit, Just pull over when I'm bloody well there DOING the speed limit...
Like the above poster said it's just gonna be another excuse for more dipsticks to go even more below the speed limit.
I don't speed, but I do sit on the limit.. used to have no trouble doing it in my old 4cyl, diesel, Hilux.
I like the 130 limit in the NT.. and they also have the least amount of road deaths in Australia.
i hope they dont lower the speed limit after going over to melbourne from adelaide last year and just as we go over the border the rest of our trip was sitting at 100km until we got onto the freeway leading into melbourne
but if those 3 in 4 find 100km to fast then let them go 90 and i will keep going 100 or whatever the speed limit is because i find highway driving no problem and if some people dont like it then take a defensive driving coarse and learn how to handle it
