Licence suspension

Hey all ... need some legal advice

Okay, so, last year I got done D.U.I in Queensland (retarded - I know) & had my licence suspended for 18 months.
Then last week I got mail from the RTA in NSW (where I live) saying that it's time to renew my licence, so I did. No probs. I was expecting the RTA to confiscate the licence, spank me & tell me not to drive. Instead they gave me a freshly renewed licence (with a bag photo) and didn't mention the QLD D.U.I charge. So, today I called the NSW RTA & politely asked when I'd be legal to drive again, but the bloke on the phone said that he didn't know what I was on about.

Which raises 2 questions in my noggin
(a) Does this mean I'm allowed to drive in NSW
(b) did I shit the bed by calling the RTA & mentioning my charge last year?

I can only assume that:
(a) You will not be legally allowed to drive in NSW, it will only be a matter of time before they sort it out, or you get pulled over and done for driving unliscensed (thats only my opinion, not definately the law?)
(b) Were you in bed when you were on the phone to the RTA? If so, then yes, it is a possibility that you shit the bed, if you were on your couch or in a different room I think it would be highly unlikely (although not impossible) that you shat in your bed.

When I went to court and lost my licence (I'm in SA) I asked my lawyer if I could move to another state and get my licence again....he said nope, unless I move to another country. But I think I'll just wait a few years till I get my licence here back.

If the RTA tell you your licensed and have sent you a license how could they then charge you for driving??

Yeah, you have your licence till they tell you, you don't. :P.
States don't communicate well...

Lack of communications between States has prompted NSW to issue a licence and I say good for you. However, if you were to have a prang and the insurance company found out you were disqualified in QLD (and they will; they'll do anything and everything not to pay out) they'll wipe you like a dirty ...... and you'll be left paying for everything. Then the police will have their turn etc. etc. Depends if you are willing to take that risk

do NOT drive in QLD for the time your license is suspended up there .............i would say that QLD cannot remove your NSW license BUT they can remove your driving privileges in QLD and THAT they do take seriously !
other than that i think you may have dodged a bullet !

id be going down to the RTA and getting ot in writing saying that your license isnt supended/disqualified/canceled for any reason, even if u have to pay a fee.

that way iof they complain you can show them that and they will have to sort it out.

Because, some of the responsibility of 'withholding information' lies with you, the Liscense Holder...

It is your responsibility as a driver, to ensure you are always legally permitted to drive a vehicle ie: hold a current liscense, if you have been suspended, then you don't hold a current liscense = simple.
