Default Woman strangled to death by go cart

A woman was strangled to death yesterday after her Islamic head dress became tangled in a go-cart axle.
The 27-year-old woman was holidaying with family at the Port Stephen's Go-Kart track on the NSW Central Coast when the freak accident occurred.
The Herald newspaper reports that the woman went into cardiac arrest after her hijab became caught at high speed and tightened around her neck.
Paramedics said the woman suffered severe neck injuries. She was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition but died a short time later.
One witness said the woman's kart just "hit the wall".
"[It] stopped and she was just slumped over," the woman said.
It is believed the victim's family saw the entire incident.
Police seized the go-kart yesterday afternoon while WorkCover is investigating the death.

What a joke. Theres specific requirements of safety when at go cart places, and this is clearly one of those times.

I sure hope the company doesn't get sued because people not from here aren't willing to accept our rules.

She should have been made to take it off before getting into the kart. As Nathan said, I just hope no one gets sued over this as I think it is her own fault for wearing loose clothing when operating machinery.

I saw this today, was pondering the question does this make the woman a martyr, based upon the fact she died solely because of religious obedience?

When I worked at AusKarts, we did'nt allow turbins or whatnot on the track, or long hair. It all needed to be tucked inside the hairnet under the helmet. Several times, I needed to pull customers up to tuck hair/clothing back into its place before it got caught around the axle. It is not prettey to see people get scalped underneath the helmet, neither would it be to see someone die under a track marshal's supervision.

It is the Track's fault for not taking the proper precautions when It comes to safety.

The situation would have happened like this.

Refused her to go on the carts.
Woman accuses company of being racist, and threatens to go to the media causing bad press.
    Company gives in.

At the end of the day, you sign a disclaimer saying the company isn't responsible and motorsport is dangerous blah blah.
Sucks to be her, and now her family are going to pay for her mistake.

serves them right for not thinking the go-kart place is partly at fault but also the person them self for not thinking ahead and thinking of the danger of wearing that sort of clothing while go-karting

They should have said something to her but at the same time I dont really care because I dont want them in our country. But seriously as if they didnt think about it, its pure common sense.

I refused plenty of people entry on account of being too fat for the karts, I even denied a lanky guy entry to the track on account of his legs being too long and his head stuck out of the roll bar. These people could've easily sued me. The la goes, 'If the reason for denial is not given, discrimmination is not applicable.'

In other words, If the go kart place said to the woman, 'You're not allowed on the track because you're Arabic', then the woman is entitled to sue for discrimination. If no reason is given, the law does not apply.

Anyway, it is the track marshall's fault for not picking up on the problem before it turned nasty. Expect the sac and a nice law case.

Let them think we are Racist, Hopefully then they will turn there nose up at us and not come here anymore.... Same with the Indians getting bashed, that was good publicity, now there are people who didn't come here from India because they thought they would get bashed... It's a perfect system.

There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
