    Default goodbye beloved VN

I had to say goodbye to my beloved 1990-91 VN today..the rust was just getting to hard to pass rego every year...i was tired of begging for rego all the time.. so with limited amount of cash I succumbed to a newer VS 1996 model. Am picking it on Tuesday. I hope I will bond with it as much as the VN. The good ol VN just kept going and going. Not a single engine leak in its entire 5 years with me. In the beginning VN had an attitude problem and kept getting hot under the collar, boiling most of the time until one day I discovered the veryyy hard to get to thermostat tucked away ever so neatly in the back of the engine bay with no room for your hand to fit through mm by mm turning the blasted thing.. took me a whole week..lol..then I learnt about air bubbles in your cooling system and how to get rid of them..after that she ran like the trouper.I hope theres nothing sinister with the VS's..can anyone shed me a little background..I hope i didnt waste my money...

Every model car has it's share of problems... A couple of searches will show up quite a few threads like this. One of the more common ones on a VS is the rear quarter window seals (Or lack thereof) leaking - So check your spare tire well for rust.

Had 4 vs in a row executive, vacationer and 2 ss sedan then the ute. Never had a problem with any of them that wasnt general wear and tear except 4 bloody electric windows. But thats a problem in any car. Good luck with the vs they're a great car.

I have a vs, but not for long, someone has already put a deposit on it.

Mine was an absolute dog of a car.. problem after problem, but that was probably because i wrote it off then fixed it.

    good luck

I had a 96 VS S2 Calais - just sold it (4k). Only problem I had was it didn't run well on petrol Not sure what the problem was. Ran fine on gas - 500kms to a tank ($45). Motor on Electric Window of LHF died, replaced and works fine. Nah the Calais was a good car. Apart from it had a cylinder head problem (small leak, burnt lil coolant - no white smoke from exhaust, just damp) and the Auto gearbox needed recon (but I drove it for 2.5yrs and worked very well still). Also had a Stuck Thermostat. It had the usual oil leak around the Sump.
