Hoons should have their cars taken away and crushed instead of the NSW governments plan to confiscate speeding drivers licence plates, the opposition says. The Nsw government is considering a plan that would see drivers caught doing 45km+ over the speed limit would lose their licence and their plates confiscated.
Problem I see is that hooning isn't related to the car. Wanna Hoon ? Go steal someone's SS. If it get's trashed who cares...
Hooning increases the risk of damage to population and property. Maybe is people faced jail time for hooning offences, like drink driving offences, we would see a reduction.
Very Very few (as far as I know) traffic offences can be dealt with by custodial sentencing.
In some respects it make sthe laws toothless. Drink Driving can, Vehicular Manslaughter can, not sure of any others.
Saw a tv show last night one of the COPS or Police shows - Thermal camera footage from a helicopter of a tool doing burnouts, drifiting and crashing into another car. Blew over the limit for BAC and also had marijuana found in his possession. Got $100 fine, 2 month license suspension on something pathetic llike that. Marijuana posession charge hadn't been finalised though

They will have to chase me first lol.
I can't imagine it would be justifiable for them to just to confiscate and crush a stolen car (unless it's already been trashed, then it's already a wreck).
It 'should' be up to the owner of the stolen car.
By all rights do it to the car owned by the hoon, if it is the car he is hooning in, but then it becomes a matter of exactly what kind of behaviour constitutes 'hooning'?
It's people like you that cause the problem in the first place with that sort of mentality.
What an idiotic comment.
In regards to the thread topic.
The crushing of cars would only make sense if there was stict rules as to what hooning is and who cops the penalty.
Because at the moment the hooning lawsare very loosely defined and just about anything can be considered hooning.
Also, confiscating or crushing car's that care caught hoon but are not driven by the owner would required special consideration.
I mean, I could hire out a brand new merc for a test drive, get a bit excited off the lights and it would be cubed... screwed...
How is it idiotic?
People are running because of these stupid laws. This mentality has been created by people LIKE YOU thinking these laws are good. It is governments and the sheeple creating these issues out of what never used to be an issue.
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
- Theodor Seuss Geisel
People run because they do dumb shit on public roads and don't wanna get caught, dumb shit which can damage other cars, and injure or even kill people.
No minux, people are running because they are stupid.
Pretty sure I made it clean I think the current hooning laws are stupid and need work... on several occasions, but jsut because I don't agree with a law doesn't give me the right to break others.
But being caught for something stupid under hooning laws and deciding to break other laws trying to get away are 2 different things.
Are you saying that you don't think running from the police is stupid? So because you with one law is stupid it's alright to break others and endanger other people's lives.
That's like saying "Yeah thay bloke was being chased by the cops for doing a burnout, plowed into my wife and kids killing them all... but it's alright, cause he was driving a lambo and it was worth it"
As I said, the hooning laws are stupid, but running from the police and endangering lives for the sake of a car is idiotic.
This is interesting - mod versus mod. Doesn't happen every day.
So Minux, if taking cars off idiots who endanger the public, and crushing them doesn't act as a sufficient punishment, what do YOU suggest in lieu?
I think I've opened a whole new can of worms.
I agree with minux and the majority of people on here that the hooning laws are stupid and in order to actually work as they are intended, they need a massive overhaul.
What I don't agree with is the mentailty, which minux seems to agree with, that because I think the hooning laws are stupid it makes running from the police alright if/when I get busted for breaking the stupid hooning laws.
It's not OK to break laws one the basis that you don't agree with them and in particular when your actions can have severe consequences and repercussions in other peoples lives.
Yeh everyone is perfect here and never raced or hooned. You all were young and stupid once upon time
Yeh everyone is perfect here and never raced. You all were young and stupid once upon time
No one is saying they are perfect and no one is saying they have never played up.
What is the relevance of your comment? I don't see how it ties in with ANYTHING being said here.
Or are you trying to say that because you where/are yound and stupid, it's justifiable to run from the police?
never said running away from the cops that is stupid. But I hate people that act all innocent on the forum. When they have done the same. No one is perfect.
