Looking at doing a traineeship in this. Once qualified whats the pay like, is it decent or? can't really find much info online about wages.
my advice is find something better.
something that will excercise your brain on a daily basis, unless of course you want it to die slowly..
Yeah, obviously it would be pretty repetitive and what not. Just looking for info on different jobs.
why not do vehicle detailing?
spraypainting or panel beating is fairly decent money and interesting to learn if thats something you could handle..
Have thought spray painting might interest me, although i don't really know all the duties of the job, i have been looking out for apprentice advertisements.
Also a have done a pre app as a sparky but decided not over keen on wiring houses and stuff, but have thought about becoming an auto elec, although i am not the greatest at maths.
With spraypainting you would start off doing all the crappy jobs that the tradies dont want to do. As in Sanding (lots of friggen sanding), Masking up and then maybe mixing paint and any other prep related work (not to mention unrelated tasks - cleaning depo's, boss's cars etc). Then they'll unleash you on the spraygun.
Personally i thoroughly enjoyed the job. I was never an apprentice but did do this line of work for a number of years in Brisbane. I started as a very young fella and no aspect of the job was overly challenging. Just always had to ensure that you take your time prepping, mixing the paint, and especially when your spraying any vehicle. Although it was not hugely challenging - it was definately satisfying knowing that you turned a wreck into an awesome looking ride.
You also then gain the knowledge to paint your own car, mates cars and basically anything you want to paint!
Thats just my opinion though, i am sure that their is a lot of other people on this site that have been doing it for years and may tell you to avoid it. If you may be interested in spraypainting, maybe just show up at a spraypainters, explain to him your considering a career in spraypainting, and even offer to do all the shitkicking jobs for free around the shop for a week so you can check it all out and see if it suits you. Do that with any trade you may be interested in just so you have an idea of what you really wanna do.
Good luck mate.
my bro-in-law is a spray painter and makes some decent dough. he has a 9-5 job and also does cashies on the weekends. pretty sweet deal
thanks for the info 'customvrss'
dannyboyds, detailing is even more mind numbing than tinting windows, were trying to help this guy out not **** his life up.
customvrss, not sure why yo uwould recommend panelbeating/spraypainting to anyone.
its one of the worst industries out there, the pay might be alright if youre qualified and know your shit but the insurance companies have made it that hard for shops to make money its taken all the fun out of it.
dusty environment, chamicals that cause cancer, fair bit of noise etc.
i am a spraypainter btw to i can bag my trade all i want
op: become a spraky or a plumber, pay is better all through your apprentice years and once youre qualified and its easier to do cashies
WILDSS - my post was outlining my personal experiences and was simply a suggestion not a recommendation. He wanted to have a basic rundown of what is involved with the job and he got it. Please note that i stated "fairly decent money" and "interesting", not "quit your day job and do it NOW!"
And mate, i can find you a LOT of worse off industries! It would not matter what you "suggest" as a suitable job as anyone working in that specific industry is sure to find all the weaknesses of the job.
WILDSS - please let me know when you find the "dream" job, involving no dust, no chemicals, no heat and no noise (make sure its high paying any very interesting!!).
Im sure a lot of people here will be very interested in what you find.
To the OP - good luck finding a suitable job.
Remember we are all "each to our own"- one guy will love a particular job when the next guy will hate it. Take your time experiencing all the jobs that may interest you before you make a decision.
If you still want to do some researches on wages etc. Go to wageline.com or the site relating specifically to your state. These government ran sites will outline all the different award wages throughout all the trades.
