SA - heads up about a dodgey body shop

Hey all just giving hte SA crew a headsup, have a few dents and scratches on my car.

Had a friend who got her dented up badly tarago fixed up there for less then a grand for some really horrible damage in hard places.

Called *******, got told over hte phone my stuff wouldnt really get past $500. Drove there this morning to have the guy on site tell me that oh no that wouldnt be the case it would cost atleast 1.2grand for the car. he craps on, i tell him its cheaper for me to replace my bonnet then have 3 dents on it fixed, he tells me buying a taiwan bonnet would be the only cheap one i'd find and it wont be great.

I tell him my mechanic can find a replacement bonnet for it for under $200, he then stops crapping and is like yeah do that, I ask him how much that brings hte price down he then tells me the job geting smaller doesnt make it much cheaper...

ends up telling me to fix the bit of paint on the roof will be $550 and the dent on my drivers door will cost $450. I reply I heard about a tarago being fixed here with really horrible damage on it and it cost them less then a grand.

He then proceeds to bag them and tell me how they just did that to get rid of her and is really rude about her.

Ok so you've been crapping with me about the price and now your insulting one of the nicest people i know and a customer, seeya.

have called another few body shops and been told varying prices all over hte board, none nearly as bad as that, so i'd advise people to steer clear of these guys, anyone got someone they'd reccomend in the north/northwest/northeast adel?

They specialise in Holdens and insurance claims.
I will say this they wont be the cheapest but they are probably one of the best panel shops in Adelaide.

Why are they a rip off? What has made them a rip off? They have performed NO WORK and charged NO MONEY, how can you claim a rip off?

If the OP was panel beater/spray painter, sure his opinion could be worth something, but the business has done nothing wrong...

Deal with enough of the guys to know who not to go to, its hard to find ones that actually do good work and dont try to shyster you on the price, im in a position where if I go to any of the people I do business with they expect favours, favours myself and the business will not want to do for them.

What I was mainly pointing out is describing the job and being told no more than one price, then being quoted for the same thing much more and then being lied to.

Any business that lies to their customers does not deserve business, and after lying and trying to mislead (when I caught him out about the bonnet).

I get clients that piss me off as well, I dont bag them to other clients, we have recently had dealings with another business who tried these tactics on us, we let it slide they then started dictating prices to us and so we have cut them off due to how they are conducting.

Gotta let people know this kind of stuff isnt cool

The second hand bonnet could be just as bad mate, plus theres the added time of rubbing back and painting the second hand bonnet inside and out to colour change, and plus if the second hand bonnet isn't in perfect order, you spend time repairing it as well.
But yes, i would have stayed away from the taiwanese bonnet as well, as most of those aftermarket panels don't fit well and don't like to line up

If it is ******. I know these guys personally and have had plenty of work done by them as well as other mates. They have never done wrong by me, I have always taken my cars to them, got a quote asked all questions and they have stuck to the quote and done exactly as asked and at times not even charge for little extras I have asked for later.

Well they are far from bodgey I know this for a fact. Getting a quote over the phone is just silly to be honest cos they only quote on what you have told them. Them changing the quote on seeing the car just means they were misled as to how much damage there really was, so I don't see how this is classed as bodgey. From now on I suggest you take the car to the repairer you want to use so that they can give an accurate quote because as I said they have never gone over on a quote for me because they have always seen the car's damage before quoting.

that just added to it, the main thing I have ap roblem with was him lying to me about the damage to my face. I've since had another quote and been told the guy was tryna screw me over, even told I can take care of the front bonnet damage myself with $40 of paint / clear and a scratch kit.

The OP is knocking a reputable business without just cause. Most people here are not so thick and stupid as to blindly believe everything that people post. If I read that someone is knocking a business because a quote amount was changed after sighting it, I am going to point out the bleeding obvious. The OP has no justified complaint here, but can't handle it when Captain Obvious points that out.
