    Default Kia Rio gearbox leak.

Hi, missus has an '06 Kia Rio Anyway the gearbox has developed a leak at the top where the selector goes in. Has, by any chance, anyone on here had/heard of this problem? Far cry, I know, but just can't afford to take it to Kia, and I'm pretty good with doing my own mechanical work, if it was the VY then no problem, but if anyone could find out through a friend, etc any info would be much appreciated. I'm guessing I've got to pull the top half of the gear box off (east-west motor) and there may be an "o" ring or something simple on the gear selector shaft. Guessing I'd need a new gasket, too. Cheers, any help much apreciated.

It wouldn't have a blocked breather by any chance. If the breather is blocked the gearbox will build up pressure and push oil past the seals when it warms up. I have heard of hilux gearboxes that leak at the selector housing because the gasket goes soft and shriks so the bolts come loose. I have never had anything to do with a Kio though so i am not sure what sort of a setup they have.

Ah k, yeah it could be that, I guess I'll have to have a better look. Can't find much on the net except one site that says they have a 2006-8 kia rio repair manual available to download as pdf, but doesn't want to work.
