I used to work for a company that ran a business employing some of their own family members. There are company policies with regards to dismissal for disciplinary actions like gambling on site, starting fights, drunkedness, theft etc.
But when it comes to staff who are not 'related' to the business, the book gets thrown to them. Fair enough.
But when it comes to their own 'members', they still continue to work even if its proven that they have been stealing from the company funds. Asians say 'save face' but i guess they rather loose some peanuts in the bank than to be label 'insensitive' to the 'needs' of their family.
I'm glad i left that $hite**** and found me a more professional environment with bigger pay and bigger perks. Now it seems my former employers are jealous of my current new found corporate position. what do you al think?
I don't quite know what to make out from your post.
If the company that you work for ignores breaches from family members at work, it is not saving face, its being hypocritical if they throw the book at non family members of the workforce.
Saving face means sticking to principles, even if it drags you through the shit, so as not to appear weak or indecisive.
Do you really care about what your former company thinks?
Who cares?
People hold on to the stupidest of things.
To me it says your new job isn't as good as your old, otherwise why are you still worried about it?

Nepotism blows and unfortunately, it happens quite a lot. I used to work for a large company and this sort of thing went on all the time - not with their relatives because this was a large corporate organisation - but with a particular band of people whom had all worked there since they left school / uni and had formed a very solid club. If you weren't accepted into this club or even dared to be outspoken about said club you had little chance of promotion. In fact there was a good chance you would shipped off to another crap department for no apparent reason other than 'we thought your skills would be best suited here'.... kind of BS. So I did what you did mate and left, never looked back except to say ***K YOU!
I resigned on my own accord and my new company would like me to list out my previous employers. background check all routine. just wondering if anyone had worst experiences from 'bad' employers
As they say, don't do business with family or friends.
I've actually been on the opposite end of what you described. I sub-contract to a company and my Dad is the contract manager. I've never had any favoritism show towards me and if anything I actually get treated worse than the rest of the guys.
Yea, i agree with you. Sometimes theres a difference between a family business and a business family. The latter puts profit ahead of relatives. At least with my current employer, there's SOP and a direct chain of command. Hardly any interference from any other party and at the end of the day, the Company is active in sports like soccer, bowling, jogs.
Does any other company promote sports as an after work roster? i know with the upcoming world cup (soccer) theres gonna a big screen tv in the lobby for keeping scores and matches being discussed
Spare a thought for us "normal" folk who haven't gone to war. Some people don't have an outlet for their frustrations and bottle things up, often times these things come back to haunt them. I worked for an ex kiwi vietnam vet and the guy was borderline psycho. He could work his way through the full range of emotions before his morning coffee, and usually direct them all at me the bloody apprentice at the time. He was that manipulative i ended up staying there for four years, more out of fear than anything else. Needless to say i now have anxiety issues and avoid working for owner/operators when possible.

We have a big sceen in the break-out room which is on all day and usually has sports on it. I'm sure there will be plenty of World Cup action on it during the matches. We also have many sport teams such as touch footy, soccer, vollyball etc we play against other corporate teams at lunch.
pretty much to the word my work is the same as that and im starting to look for a new job now, been there for 3 years and had enough, basically because stay home with my family instead of going drinking and wasting my wage on a weekend with the bosses i dont deserve a pay rise although i work harder and better then the other fella's lol

send them a chopstik in the post......
Family isn't always treated better. I used to work for the mum-in-law. She sacked me via text message over one ****ing job that went over the quoted time whereas other employees that weren't related were given chance after chance after chance.
Mothers in law for you.
