is it illegal to keep things you find. for example can you keep things you find in the bush? like TVs and things. just curious
No, but only if you give them to me![]()
If computers have no doors or fences, who needs Windows and Gates?
Before I heard about that story where that couple bought a suitcase which had a hundred grand in it, I wouldve said yes. But after that, Im saying no... Theft by finding or something :S
If you didn't take it from private property, and it wasn't labeled and couldn't otherwise be identified as someone's, I can't see what the problem is. If you pick $10 up off the street is that stealing? No its not, same with this.
i think it all depends on what you find and how much it is worth, i like the rule finders keepers lol
In SA (and probably everywhere) if you find something and hand it into a police station as 'lost property', there's a 30 day window for someone to claim it in. If nobody comes for it, it's yours then, but following it up after a month is the finders responsibility
1. walk off with it
2. if stopped say "im taking it to the police station, it might be stolen goods... or something"
3. drive away
4. profit
you know ya wanna keep it lol
of course I'd keep it. Every normal person would, unless it was somebodys passport, original birth certificate and drivers license etc..
Found in the bush aye? Did you happen to stumble across someones imitation tomato crops? If so, I'd suggest you leave them and never go back.
Yeah it all depends on what/when/where/why. If it's dumped on public land you're probably doing your local council a favour by removing some of it. If it's AR mags like i found once it may have been stashed there by someone and you may not want to be there when they come back for it.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
Albert Einstein
wouldnt take it full stop...
then reconsider and come back at night with a balaclava so nobody can identify you... then run off... lol
It would be nice to think that if you lost something, somebody would hand it in to the authorities.........

x2, what was it?? lol,
Subscribing to (hopefully) find out!
Would be nice to think that...
But in reality, if you lost a 'necklace' would you seriously go into the police station and ask if there had been any 'handed in'
The way the worlds going, if it aint chained down, chances are it'l grow legs...
we still dont know what he found.. or the exact setting.. ie. some campers left thier tent and went for a bush walk..and fuzzy found some ipods, cash and personal bellongings.. so technically he found it in the bush haha
well he hasnt replied yet. maybe he took it and they found out
i wanna go find stuff now!
TV's? I don't know how anyone could lose a telly in the bush. I think if you stumbled across something like a telly in the bush it'll most likely be an old worthless CRT that someone's dumped to make room for their new flatscreen. If it is a brand new big flat screen telly then chances are someone has stashed it their for a reason...
Four commodores and counting.

Hence my comment ...... A few days ago found an I-phone at work, wrote it up on the lost and found register. Ended up being the boss's phone so got a promotion.
