Default Moving House - (No I don't want to borrow a ute :P)

I'm moving house tomorrow/thursday, and already have a normal trailer, but not a cage one..
The only thing I would need a cage trailer for is the fridge, since you're meant to keep them upright.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas etc if it's possible without a cage trailer? If not, I'm happy to hire a cage one, I'd just rather save the cash..

    cheers

Car licence for the baby trucks.

Look around for hire though, I only paid $84 for Europcar one with twice as many km's to use

A cage trailer is only about $100 including the refundable deposit of $45 in Adelaide.. I reckon thats the go then, there's only really the fridge.. everything else is gonna fit into the 7x4 trailer (I'm only moving into a unit - not heaps of furniture :P)

i've always laid fridges down when i've moved them and never had a problem.
i just let it sit for a few hours before turning it back on.

Use decent straps and tie it down hard to the trailer that you have now (leave it standing up). Will be fine if you tie it down well! Stuff paying for a truck to move a fridge!

Not the best thing to put fridges on the side.

That's what I though with the truck and even with the trailer.. The fridge is the only thing I'd need a cage for.. But if lying it down stuffs it up I can't afford a new one

Just had a mental image of the fridge tied down standing up in the back of the VN with the boot removed driving around at 3am haha

The best thing is to just weld up a simple frame that bolts to the front of the trailer so you have some where to tie things like refrigerators to. You just have to be careful when you reverse under very low tilt garage doors or you might have to spend several hours panel beating the door back into shape and pop riveting it back together.

The trailer used to be dads, and every time we moved he'd weld a few bars on to it, and grind them off once we'd moved (we've moved about 17 times cause he's a copper) haha, but I don't have a welder and am moving this week

Ive laid fridges on their side without a problem and you should leave them off for about a day before switching them off.
I sold my house on Saturday and will be doing some moving myself very soon.House is already full of boxes.

Didn't anyone ever tell him about bolts? They work a treat. You can bolt the frame up to the trailer when you need it, then unbolt them and take it off when you don't. About four should do it.

Tie it down properly, ratchet straps make this very easy.
or just lay it on its side and leave it off for a day.

Agree'd with a few of the guys on here, just use your trailer, stand the fridge in the corner, tie it down with two tie downs - really firm - (put cardboard or something on the corners of the fridge if you're worried about marking it)
I've moved numerous fridges this way, and it works a treat!

Save the $100 (or so) buy a couple of cases of piss, and get a mate to help you

or, you could spend the 100 bucks on alcohol, as stated above, and after getting your mate pissed, sit him up on the trailer with the fridge, and hold it
