Traffic, like any major city is crap in peak hour, but fine at any other time. Jobs, sorry can't help haven't looked lately.
Weather is great, obviously going to be a bit cooler than Mackay, but no cyclones at least, oh and no flooding either. Sometimes can rain for a few days on end but usually sunny.
Living costs, probably much the same as Mackay, though fruit and veg might be slightly dearer, we are further from the source, LOL.
Unlike Sydney and Melbourne thought Brissie is not an 'all-night city', closes at night just like your local towns.
All-in-all I like it.

Job wise it's not to hard to find anything, Yes you may have to travel a bit, but it all comes down to what your qualified in.
Just a note the Building industry is very quite.
More info as to what you do would be helpful.
Traffics is shit. Theres no better way to explain it. Shit going north, shit going south, shit going east and shit going west. Plain and simple.
Not a Muggy as up north, gets pretty cold during the nights.
Already living in Queensland you should already know what the cost of living is. Yes rent is high, Yes there is a higher Average price mean on houses. Food wise i wouldn't expect it to be any different since we all seem to source the same foods.
LOL funny sentence. Its not that bad, during the day I can get from Redcliffe to Stafford with no problems.Shit going north, shit going south, shit going east and shit going west. Plain and simple.

what sort of jobs are you chasing?
there are areas that flood quite easily when it rains
but as stated the traffic is quite bad in peak hours and you also have the added fun of toll roads which are popping up everywhere lately
cost of living is pretty high but i think that would be the same all over qld
Stay away! I had to move here for work and I can't wait to get out. Just as soon as I finish my apprenticeship I'm gone. Traffic is terrible. Try your best to find somewhere to live close to where you work. Or vice versa. The weather can get pretty cold in winter and pretty hot in summer, but surely not as hot as Mackay. Living costs I don't think will be much different.
Maybe I'm biased because I just hate cities in general, but I don't think its a very nice place to live.
Four commodores and counting.
Thank's so far the replies
Job industry Im chasing is preferably.. Apprentice Chef (Hospitality) Mechanic / Sparky.. or something along them lines.
Mainly a "hands-on" job, I don't really want a Desk Job, but if need be.. I will do it.
As for a Place to Live, how recommended is it to live by myself? (Guessing very poor)
Where is the best place to live in Brissy with cheapish rent.. BUT.. A good place where it's fairly crime free & noise free.
Another thing is, coming from a small town .. Well, small compared to Brissy.. I fear that I could get lost really quick LOL
The Toll booths you have, How much is it?
AND! Should I know anything about the Police there?
here in mackay.. They are VERY stuck up, and power hungry.
When I first came to brissy I was terrified of driving anywhere for fear of getting lost. Luckily my work entails a lot of driving around all over the place, so I've gotten to know my way around fairly well. And a gps comes in real handy. If you want a nice crime free suburb stay away from caboolture, redcliffe, logan, ipswich, and beenleigh. Them and any surrounding suburbs. I hear Inala is pretty bad. The high school there apparently has a full time cop on the premises. However living your own in a decent suburb will cost a pretty penny. The rent on the house I live in is over $600 a week. There are 5 of us living in it though.
I very rarely use the toll roads except in work vehicles, but its not supercheap. I've never had any experiences with the cops but there's plenty of bad stories about them.
Four commodores and counting.
i live in beenleigh still got my original car, havnt been broken into, and my solar lights are still out the front.
if you want a crime free suburb, dont come to brisbane, crime is everywhere in brisbane, the same as in sydney, and melbourne. and all other major suburbs.
work, there is work everywhere, just depends on where you want to work and what you do for a living. cost of living, rent is expensive towards the center of town. but gets cheaper the further out you go. takes me aprox 50 mins to get from beenleigh to work during peak hour. but as stated, north, south east west, it's all shit. they have killed it with to much road works happening at once.
i will agree on inala and goodna though, not the best of place's,

East Coast Blows![]()
Ahh ok, .. Luckily Im keen to take on a second job like Kitchen Hand.. If work day shift that is..
Brissy seems full of life, so I wouldnt be bored there
But, the main issue is.. I will be facing a big city by myself..with no family or friends lol.. There are 2 people I know in brissy..but havent seen em in some time . LONG TIME..except for one
I know, a LOT of people have done this all before, but I find it hard lol.
I know I can get a Glass and Glazier job in Brissy tho,.. He is a good mate, that has a small business thats been running for 2 years.. And have offerd me a Job if I wish to live in brissy.
But mainly, it's just how to adapt to life there lol
At the moment, I live with my family.. (im 20)
As long as I have a lil place to live in.. I will be happy, BUT i will have good internert tho.. I like to play games online heheh..

As for Crime Free, im not askin 100% crime free..
I want to live in a place, where the ods of my car wont be nicked if its parked in the driveway of the gutterLike the way it is here in mackay heheh

Should also add.. Im considering sell my VP... I have a buyer who is willing to pay 3k for it..
Soo, maybe for the first few months I wont need a car down there.. Or should I keep it?
If I were to sell the VP, it would help me find a place in Brissy.. a tad better, ..
Packing up and moving is easier than you think, ive done it all before.
I packed up and moved from Perth to Cairns back in 07. Sent my bike over via truck along with all things close to my heart.
I knew 1 person in cairns when i went there and she was always away with work (flight attendent)
It was easier than i expected t get into the swing of things, suss out whats around, meet new ppl to become ur "crew"
Just give it a shot, dont second guess ur decision. U will either love it or hate it, either way its a great experience you can look back onto
Oh yeah i was only in cairns for about a year then i bailed back to the better side of the countryBest thing was WA plates on the bike, so when i was caught speeding i only paid a fine as point sustem doesnt match the WA one so that saved me once or twice.

It's all about the right time of day. I travel all over Brisbane for work and i know when to avoid certain roads. A half hour either side including peak hours are dicey and even then some roads are busy every hour of the day. Familiarise yourself with public transport and short cuts if you want to get anywhere in this damn city. This is particularly important to consider when applying for jobs. I've seen some great jobs going but they are an hour or so drive to get to during peak traffic (when it should take half that or less).
Na mate you're wasting your time in Brisbane. Gangs and wannabes are rife as is petty theft. In my travels i've noticed that for every new house being built every second has the sort of security measures you would find in South Africa. Big dogs, security cameras, halogen flood lights, private security patrols......you can't tell me it's any better here than in Mackay. Damn the only reason i'm here as it is is out of convenience. Yes there is work but you have to fight to get it due to the number of people going for the job. And rent for a small place would send you broke unless it was a run down little one room town house on the outskirts of town. Get some mates together and do the share thing would be your best bet. And don't piss off your neighbours, i've heard through the news that one of my neighbours got done for armed robbery, and another shot a police officer dead. Sad times we live in.

your querstions answered on my experiences.i am from sydney though so its not much of a comparison
Whats the "life" like there, how is the Jobs? i found a job within a week
Whats the Traffic like... traffic was so much better than sydney.. sydney drivers cant drive
How's the weather usually?beautiful one day sunny the next <like i said im from sydney>
How dear is Living Cost's in brissy? i found it to be alot cheaper than sydney.
if you wanna go the cheap option move to the southside but the safer option is northside
and dont sell the vp
I did the move back in 2007 from Sydney.
Life isn't too bad here.
I find the weather is shithouse as I am not used to the humidity, and probably never will be. You are coming from Mackay so it won't be a problem for you. I used to live in Middlemount and travel to Mackay on weekends and its a shitload more humid there than here.
Traffic is bad. Everywhere you go, on every side of the city, its packed.
If you want good access to public transport and hospitals, the south side is the place to be. I personally don't like the southside. You can get good areas, but houseprices are insane.
Crime, I don't see any where I live. I live on the west side of brisbane. Trying not to sound like a wanker, but the west side is the prestigious side, unlike most other capital cities. I live on the Brisbane River in a semi rural suburb and I think its great. Public transport for me is limited, I have to drive 10 minutes to a train station, and its around 40 mins to the city by train. By road, before the traffic is only 30 mins.
Public transport in Brisbane is generally shit - my train was 20 minutes late today. There are huge fare rises planned too. My weekly fare of $46 is projected to increase to $83 in 3-4 years time.
Suburbs to avoid - I can only speak for the southside (my girlfriend lives in Sunnybank Hills) and the westside - Inala, Darra, Wacol, Beenleigh, Woodridge, Kingston, Moorooka, Salisbury.
As far as Ipswich goes, there are some pretty ghetto areas there and sometimes I think they breed a different type of person out that way, but there are new estates in Springfield that aren't too bad if you can overcome the reputation that comes with Ipswich.
Same as Logan and surrounds.
Your income will determine where you will be living in Brisbane, as everywhere nice or semi decent is quite expensive.
The upside of this is a cheap house in Ipswich will go up in value as hardly anybody can afford to live within a 25km radius of the city and are now moving outwards.
Houseprices on the west side start at around $400k for a place that needs to be renovated up to over $2 million. Rentals start at around $400 a week for a 3 bedroom house.
If I can think of any more info I'll update.
Sorry if I offended - but I know a guy who lives in Beenleigh who's house got broken into. The neighbours place got knocked over the day before. But its luck of the draw I guess. You could live in a dodgy suburb and never get robbed or live in a less dodgy suburb and get your car knocked off.
Four commodores and counting.
I don't know where all this negativity about Brisbane comes from.
When you go out for a drive, the police are more than happy to give you an escort to where you want to go, they will even block streets off for you so you can have some fun safely. This only happens if you own a Holden.
If you do get pulled over by the police and you are driving a Holden it is usually to tell you how cool your car is or to donate a carton of beer to you.
The streets are paved with gold, so if you are down on your luck, just grab a bit of footpath and all is good again.
The summer is perfect for drinking nice cold beers and winter is great for drinking spirits neat.
There is no crime at all, we just make up crime stories to try and stop everyone moving to this great city.
Brisbane great one day, perfect the next.
p.s I may have been looking through my rose colored glasses when typing this.

Traffic is bad at peak hour no matter what city you're in. Generally it's not too bad. Some intersections are a pain like the Hamilton and Gympie roads intersection. Nothing to get in a twist about.
Weather is great mostly. Had a bit of rain the last couple of days and the early mornings and evenings are cold, but like today, there's not a cloud in the sky and I'm sitting here right now in shorts and singlet. and we're just a few days before winter.
Work is in abundance for those willing to work. All depends on what field your career involves.
The cost of living is high no matter where you are. Rent is absolutely ridiculous. Best option would be to get yourself shared accommodation until you're ready to go at on your own.
I've been here since 1984. I love it here. Good luck with whatever you decide.
METAL is my religion and JUDAS is my PRIEST
ya right about the traffic, i hate it so much, every time i go there i get lost, then angry, then my car cop's an absolute flogging all the way back to gold coast.. ya miss ya turn off and its all over, takes 2hours to get back to the turn off ya missed. and there's no where to pull over to check the map. drive's me insane.. ..
oh and the bloody tow truck drivers are good too, parked in a bus zone which parking was allowed till 4.00pm, 7mins late and my car was gone. $370 later i got my car back. was no bus's, car wasnt in the way of anything or causing a hassle. 7mins is just bull sh!t........... 20-30mins and if buses were everywhere-fair enough.
