    Default Car Club President charged

POLICE have begun "targeting" car enthusiast groups that allegedly ignore road laws, charging the head of a notorious Adelaide car club with an anti-hoon law that has not been used before.

So they are attempting to charge him without any actual evidence of him doing anything wrong, except that he was in a car club that they believe delibratley used to break the law?

I am seeing why having so many Labor states is sending the country backwards.

Trust Minux to turn something like this into an anti-Labor rant

I could be wrong, I don't bother much with these things, but aren't ACC one of those car clubs that everyone knows are a bunch of hoons? This stuff all ends up going before a court, so they'll have to have evidence up the wazoo for it to stick - I'm sure this wasn't "random targeting", they would have had it coming.

Reading the article it sounds liek they are trying to charge for being the head of it. It doesnt say they have evidence, just says basically charging the head o the group for what everyone knowing what they do.

If there wasnt more important crimes to be targetting out there, I wouldn't have an issue.

Hmm, I wonder if SA police are going to charge the heads of bikey gangs over there? They are a part of a group who go out to break laws, they continually break laws. How is it any different? Maybe car hoons need to also get in the pockets of police? Would certainly help. Or maybe they could start selling drugs!!!! Then they could help fund police retirements

Doesn't say what colour panties the lead officer was wearing either - I'm sure they have evidence. You keep going on about how you have a family member in the force, ask them if they think they'd have solid evidence before pulling out a charge like this.

As for other crimes, name one "more important" crime that isn't being targeted? Like health spending vs defence (and all the other portfolios) they have to allocate finite resources to lots of different issues, just because they are being successful solving one, doesn't mean they aren't working to solve others. There is only so much resource you can throw at a problem before it stops helping.

In can't speak for SA, but in NSW bikies are getting ****ed over right now. It's illegal just to wear the colours of certain biker clubs.

He may just be, but he still has rights.

That media makes out like they were all doing burnouts ontop of pregnant women while selling drugs to school kids, destroying the ozone layer and planning terrorist attacks..

i've been on a few cruises that have been well organised, not so much any more.

We had a few TMU cars who were enthusiasts come along from point to point, they were always willing to chat and have a good time along with everyone else after all they had a fancy commodore with racing chequered decals!, no one got defected or fined that didn't deserve or provoke it.

Everyone was kept inline and nothing got out of hand.. there was 500 cars
The TMU also kept the other normal police from hitting the event hard with defects...

I'd like to see a media outlet that doesn't share the same one sided opinion that they call "FACTS"

Stamping out hoon behaviour will never work, they need to encourage safer driving.

Oh didnt see this thread when I posted mine, sorry guys.

Pretty bullshit, but I'm sure the car club brought it on themselves. Only hope it doesn't get worse and start banning every club no matter what they are doing.

So they are charging him because he created a cruise and other people that may not have been him, may have broken the road rules. Seems like a fair and just charge, well done SAPOL... sigh.

While sure he may seem like a twat, but there charging him for being... effectively what I am to the Vic section. They are charging him because he organised the cruise and someone he may or may not know did something stupid. God help any club out there if they continue to use this silly law. Theyre charging him on what appears to be nothing but word of mouth...good to see heresay is now a widely accept form of evidence.

Its just another reason to go and buy a white camry.

This whole "hoon" issue reminds me of Salem. HOON HOON! The mothers cry.

Am i the only person that read this???

    "He was also photographed
    participating in a "breakaway"
    group of the cruise where
    drivers took turns doing
burnouts and "circle work" in a
    100km/h zone"

That my friends is evidence right there.. Seems like that guy was a tossa setting a bad example, and unfortunetly as the president of the club he does take on some responsibility for memebers actions

Thats not the argument here. If he did something wrong, then charge him. The problem is charging him because he organised an event

it seems obvious that he organised it for the purpose of getting together with other hoons for some hooning. i'm not a lawyer but i have a feeling that organising an event entails some responsibility for its being run in a legal manner. obviously he can't help it if some people turn up and start behaving badly, but if it can be shown that he could reasonably have expected or encouraged that to happen, i'm guessing he may be up against it in court.

You would have a hard time proving that. Most car clubs are not dumb enough to start a cruise without the usual "no burnouts or illegal behaviour" yet it happens at 99% of those kinds of cruises.

It really depends. You can hardly call cars sitting in a car park an event. Some might call a cruise an event, others will call it traffic. Once again, it would be hard to prove that it is an event that requires duty of care, or any level of responsibility. If that were the case, any time I ask a few people to go meet me at some location, I would have to be responsible for them not doing anything stupid. Its a stupid law with way too many loopholes.

But the charges do not relate to those offences (if any of you long time readers will recall this "breakaway group" was in the papers a year ago for this alleged "circle work" in the 100 zone because a very high powered VK had a crash during it and people were charged). Why make up, out of thin air, a new addition to the hoon legislation which can practically outlaw a group of car enthusiasts gathering together. Sure it may sound like I am taking that last bit a tad far, but its the same thing they have done/are doing with the bikies (and the same thing the Nazis did with Jews and Gypsy's ) you are not allowed to gather and meet in public - whats to stop them from extending it to car enthusiasts because were all hoons who tear around the streets with means looks in our eyes...

I think you'll find the 'reporter' is getting mixed up with real life and the fast and the furious.....

This 'law' is the exact reason I refuse to have anything to do with any car club now (although I was given the ultimatum by a CIB detective who came to my house)

Was that the one where the reporters were raving on about how the car had as much power as a V8 Supercar?
