    Default Lol, Petrol Station Attendant

Fuels up at the Mobil near Knox City last night.
Guy who was in front of me at the line goes to the service attendant
'Whats the difference between the two premiums'
'Its just the octane percentage, you have 95oct and 98oct' responds the attendant
'Ohhh yeah.. so what would be better for me, i just bought a HSV Grange' the man asked
Attendant instantly responds 'oh the 95 octane will be better.. it will give you more power and economy.

Lol wtf is this guy serious.. was gonna ask if 91 octane was the best for my VN or i should run LPG gas

No you should have asked him whether you should use LPG or Diesel, would have been a good answer either way.

Without being rude, whats the lol? The attendant may've been knowledged up on his Holdens (5L, LSX engines). A lot of people who I've heard go out and do the whole "I always put premium/high octane in" when talking about 5L engines, to make it sound like no expense spared, and looking after the engine etc, however little people know that the Standard 5L Engine (unchipped etc) is actually tuned to run on 91 Octane Unleaded.

Don't get me wrong, people who say they pay for the 98 octane, great intentions with no expense spared.

Where does it say that the car was a 5L? "I just bought a HSV Grange", sounds like a VE2 HSV Grange, and goddamn if I just spent that sort of coin on a car, it would get nothing but 98 octane.

You're right, but not once does it say 5L, and chances are, if the person had JUST bought it then it could be a VE Grange. I understand people wanting to put the best fuel as well as oil and maintenance products in, considering the latest model im guessing would be $60k+ - HOWEVER, what if the VE Grange was only tuned to run 91 Octane fuel?

The attendant saying "the best fuel I can recommend is standard pump 91 Unleaded" - nothign wrong there.

NO, no not at all. But the way I'm reading it, and I could be wrong, "I just bought....", I'm thinking a VE. But hell if I bought any newish Grange I would still put 98 in it. If it was something like a VT equivalent or older then I would only put 95 at best in.

VE Grange is tuned to run 95 ron so what's the big deal? HSV recommend 95 so the attendant was right. No point putting 98 in as you're throwing your money away.

Poor OP tried to make a post but gets torn to shreds. I love it when people say 96 percent octane or 98 percent octane. I need to get me some full octane fuel.

I work at a servo, and no one ever told me the difference between them. Not that it mattered as I already knew, but not everyone gets told (not sure why not) so I can understand why he wouldn't know. I get asked a lot by customers who mistakenly put PULP in instead of ULP if their motor will be ok or will it blow up lol.

Tell them it will blow up, then hand them a siphon. Then just as hey are about to start, tell them your just messing with them.

he, he, I had a mate who put in premium into a little shitty car accidently then asked me if it would blow it up, genuinely shitting himself.

As far as new cars go, I know with a lot of them they may be tuned from the factory to run 95 but will run fine on 98 or 91, it will just sense the octane and change the maps for better performance, or less performance. Doesn't make much difference.

But if I just bought a grange i'd be using 98, only a couple a cents more per litre. Get better economy too, Well, I did in my old car, extra 40 to 50 kms per tank.
