P-plater 'hit five schoolboys then drove away' - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)Police have charged a 21-year-old man over a hit-and-run accident involving five teenage boys at Fairfield in Sydney's west yesterday.
The five students, all aged 13, were on their way home in heavy rain at about 3:15pm (AEST) when they were struck outside a primary school.
It is alleged the car was seen fishtailing down Horsley Drive before veering off the road.
Police say the car struck the boys before hitting a fence.
It is alleged the driver got out of the car briefly to take a look then drove away.
The students were all taken to hospital where they were treated for minor injuries such as bruising, and were then discharged.
Police interviewed the 21-year-old P-plate driver last night at his Edensor Park home.
He is due to appear in Fairfield Local Court next month accused of losing control of the vehicle, negligent driving, failing to stop and and driving a vehicle with smooth tyres.
Regardless of him been a P-Plater, a 30 year old, a 50 year old, an 80 year old. This is just frikin sick. I question peoples mental stability of been able to physically get out of the car, look at half a dozen people twisted and mangled on the ground screaming in pain..... and then drive away.
That is ****ed up... Why wouldnt you stop, i understand that they might be scared or not see the kids or felt them but to stop, look at them and then piss off... not cool
I am unsure what is worse here...continuing driving withut stopping at all, or stopping taking a glance then going again.
Although against it, I guess his lawyers will have an easier case to fight, as he did stop he can claim they all said they were ok.
Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

When I hit a kid on a bike I could not get out the car fast enough to help them, I was lucky that they were ok and not injured. I still reported it to the police.
I did not drive down that street for atleast 2 years after that.
i hit a pedetrian on my push bike. the guy tried to cross on a red signal and stepped right out in front of me in the bike lane. i was on my downhill bike so it wasnt some little light road bike that would have stopped and thrown me over the handle bars i ploud straight through they guy as i had no time to stop.
i couldnt get of my bike and back to him to see if he was ok and help him out of the middle of the street. was horrible feeling.
I was in the car park at wollies with a mate as he went to pull out a guy steped infront of the car and he got knocked down, he got straight up and bolted. was funny as hell to see someone go down then get up so fast.
Hit and run is a very serious offence. I think he will need to keep his soap tied to a piece of string where he is going. The fact that he was seen fishtailing up the road will go against him as well.
Why don't they just make it so us p platers have to push our cars like the flinstones? Its going to get to that some day.... Sick of ****wits ruining it for the rest of us...

shit bloke for doing a runner - but I get the feeling that this story is a bit blown out of proportion.they were treated for minor injuries such as bruising, and were then discharged.
How is it being blown out of proportion?? Bloke hits 5 kids hops out, takes a quick look and drives off.
Wouldn't be surprised if all he cops is a licence suspension and a suspended jail sentance courtesy of our ****ed up court system.
Yeh mate care to explain how its been taken out of proportion.
doesnt matter if you hit a 21 yr old or a 80 yr old.
you hit someone you get out check if they are ok and call cops/ambulance no matter if they are ok or not.
you dont want to hit some one get out check they are ok and agree they are fine and drive off only to get a sumouns 2 month later in the mail for a hit run becuase there isnt any proof you stopped to see if they are ok.
risk management 101
How he can even live with himself after doing that....how sick in the head must he be?? He probably got out of his car and thought "what a great powerslide......can't wait to tell all me mates how much i drifted.....man i'm so cool....just hit a fence, not much damage, the kids sholdn't have been there in the first place and they deserve it...man i'm so cool"...........and that'll be the attitude he has, otherwise he would have had some common sense and at least seen if the kids were ok.
What an absolute waste of space and my fresh oxygen.

*sigh* you are missing lukes point.
People are making out like there was broken bones all over the place, heads rolling around on the street. All he is saying is it isn't as bad on the injury front as people are making out.
Kind of like this ad, blowing things out of proprtion

^^ That's the one.
I agree that it will be interesting as to how this pans out. Technically he 'stopped', just not for a long period of time. The crimes act requires you to stop and render assitance/call police if you "know/ought to reasonably know" that you've injured a person(s). - Perhaps he has satisfied this by stopping, jumping out of the car - and not seen any injuries...... - then probably done a David Copperfield to not have to pay for the fence he hit
Plus the offences that he was charged with imply that it was more of an accident, rather than D1 drifting gone wrong - despite what the article implies with it's alleged "fishtailing", "P platering"
Based on a quick read of the article, I believe it's unlikely that he'll recieve any kind of jail sentance - suspended or otherwise...
i.e. being charged with negligent driving - rather than reckless driving. (no jail)
Not sure what the penalty is for "losing control of the vehicle" - i suppose it's similar to Victoria's "failure to remain in full and proper control".... - which again is just money/license penalty
As for failure to stop.. There's harsh penalties if GBH or death has been caused - but see above for "ought to know" about injury reference - I suspect this is just more fines.
Bald tyres charge would be in conjunction with negligent dirivng.
I'd imagine a veery long time without a license, and a fair few kahunas lighter.
In Either case - I would definately be stopping if this happened to me.
Playing devils advocate here.
No doubt the same people crying out this guy should be shot, are the same people who go on about how stupid it is people take ACA as truth.
The kids were treated for BRUISES, so obviously they werent hit hard, the article doesnt say what happened when he got out, but the assumption that he got out looked at them got back in and high tailed it out of there is just as likely as got out, apologised and asked if they were alright.
If theres a bunch of guys standing around, you hit them minorly but they still all are clearly fine bar a few bruises, what do you suggest to do? Call an ambulance police and fence the area off?
Some ACA fan walking by probably saw the p plates and rushed over to make a scene and did just that.
What 13 year old wants to go to hospital for a bruise?
Coming from someone who has had some minor scuffles with cars as a kid.
