Hi Guys,
Have lived over East and then in Western Australia for a number of years and am now moving to Darwin for work.
My question is......
What to do in Darwin? Good Pubs, Clubs, Stripclubs, Casino's etc???
Does Darwin have a speedway or any Car clubs etc???
Good mechanics, performance shops etc in Darwin???
Basically any advice to someone completely new to Darwin! Am moving withing 2 months.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
Only thing I can say is that drinking a lot of beer is very helpful for the BEER CAN REGATTA.
Will definately keep that in mind!
Starting to think that not many car nuts are in Darwin!
You would be surprised. Darwin has it's own racetrack called Hidden Valley which isn't too bad and also has the drag strip at the same spot. Always was some one cruising around when I was there. Don't be surprised if you get asked for a couple of bucks every time your in the city either. Don't know if your into it or if it's still there but don't go Throb nightclub if your straight.
Hidden Valley!! Forgot bout that one!
So to Recap so far:
Drink lots of beer and avoid Throb nightclub!
Haha cheers guys
Don't forget that Darwin is apparently the BBQ capital of Australia apparently.
I am living in Karratha at the moment, about 2 hours from marble bar (hottest place in aus) and it is dam hot here! I think Darwin has similar heat but with more humidity!!
And it actually rains in Darwin (Have seen rain probably 3 times in 2 years).
Heat isn't bad but the humidity is the killer. Especially during the build up.
Dam why did you warn him about throb?! thats like the best trick to play on newbies lol.
Darwin is an awesome place, upgraded from Kununurra not to long ago. The nightlife is pretty good, lots of places in the city (lots of backpacker chicks), and even a few good pubs in the suburbs.
Strippers - Honey pot
Casino - Crown Casino (really good, but they let people in with singlets and thongs which kinda ruins the casino vibe a little)
Probably the best thing about Darwin is the food, so many different restaurants for a small city. Have a look at the Mindil markets, Parap markets and Rapid Creek markets when you move up, amazing and very cheap asian street food. Also there are really cheap flights to Singapore and Bali from Darwin which is good for long weekends and such.
Allot of the locals winge about the cops in Darwin, there are allot of speed and redlight camera's, however the cops aren't any worse than the ones over east. Also the roads are really good, and the traffic flows really smoothly. Takes me about 15 minutes to go from the suburbs to the city in peak hour, and about 10 normally.
O and the "being asked for a couple of bucks" thing ..... its not as bad as WA, though you still see some standout performances!
How could I forget the food in Darwin?! It's such a multicultural place that there's pretty much a restaurant for all tastes. Also yes the markets are pretty good. I still remember my mate (don't know if he's still there) that made the best satays at the markets. The city is always not what a lot of people expect being mainly one street with the nightclubs. Also the fact you can walk from one end of town to the other end in 15 mins.
If your after a good workshop i always took my car to a place called Peckys in Winellie.
There car won the off street racing for Powercruise Darwin.
They are only a small family workshop but there son Kelin is one of the best tuners up North
+2 for Peckys. A lot of tough and quick car's come out of that place.
Cheers for the advice guys!
Starting to get excited for the move. It definately sounds like some worthwhile places are in Darwin!!
An i am stoked that you didnt send me to the "throb" club! I woulda been in the car that quick and over the nearest border!
