Default i thought this was interesting.. "3 story building sinks"

DOWNPOURS caused by Tropical Storm Agatha have created a giant sinkhole in Guatemala City, while throughout Guatemala officials have reported 120 dead and at least 53 missing.

The sinkhole, which formed in the northern part of the capital city, swallowed up a space larger than the area of a street intersection, CNN said today.

Residents told CNN that a three-storey building and a house fell into the hole.

A local newspaper reported that a private security guard was killed when the sinkhole opened up, but authorities had not confirmed the fatality.

Residents said a poor sewage drainage system underground was to blame for the sinkhole.

A similar hole opened up nearby last year, they told CNN.

Flooding and landslides from Tropical Storm Agatha have killed at least 144 people and left thousands homeless in Central America, officials said today, with Guatemala the country hardest hit by the season's first tropical storm.

What I'd like to know is how the hell a hole like that can just "open up". For what its worth, I know its real and everything, but it almost does look like a Photoshop to me.

Yeah i saw this in the paper today. There was a large sewage pipe under the building that caved in and the building was literally washed away. Frikin Extreme.

Most likely there was a substantially thick layer of clay/silt, or other weak strata which liquified when the sewage started leaking into it.

It probably took ages to get to that scale.
