Hey guys,
needing some people with the relevant knowledge to help me out.
I let my junior gun license run out when i turned 18 (didnt apply for the senior license) so i am now going to re-do my license.
now, ive been shooting a fair bit as a junior and used my mates guns and are starting to get back into it now so thats why im asking.
i know that to use a pump shotty i need to get a catergory C license so what does this require as in with the test? I know A and B license is the longarms safety course but what extra is needed for C?
ive been looking at the victorian police website but couldnt find much info as to what else is needed for C.
I hope that makes enough sense to people reading it lol.
cheers
Smith
Not sure on the testing side but Im pretty sure cat C and D licences are restricted licences and when you apply you have to have a valid reason why a Cat A or B gun wouldnt be suitable and why you need a C or D etc.
Victoria should have a weapons licensing branch lurking somewhere on the internets, i copy pasted this from the Queensland site. Should be pretty much the same. Going for your category C is much the same as going for the A and B category. Go and do your safety course, be an approved member of a club or other genuine reason (and to be honest i would love to know myself), fill out the many various forms and hand in to either you local police station or weapons licensing office. I'm going for my category H soon and i know the procedure is the more or less the same, and i have to wait a year before i can purchase a pistol anyway so i had better get a move on. Hopefully if i'm good enough i would like to go to the masters!

Cat C, D & E Application
I got my A & B licence redone recently (Never got a letter to sign over my Junior and it expired beyond my knowledge), and there were people there wants a Cat C, and pretty much were told not a hope in hell unless they have substantial reasons and proof. But you can only try.
Best off speaking to your local firearms officer as he is the one that is going to have to approve your Cat C, D or E application and can help you fill it out correctly etc.

skipping the whole licensing part , what are the legalities of owning a gun in vic and where can you buy them from ? im just curious , because in America cant you like buy these at the local wallmart and such lol ?
Legalities, you must have a licence which you require reasoning for having (unless you got it years ago). Depending on your licence you can own anything, most common is your A and B licence, which is air rifles, rim fire rifles and centre file rifles, which can be of the actions, Single shot, Pump, Lever, bolt, break action. Also can have SHotguns, but only Break, Lever and Bolt action, no pump actions. Not allowed any semi-automatic or automatic firearms on a cat A & B licence.
Firearms must be stored in a secure location with ammunition seperate etc, more laws on this but thats the jist.
You can but them from any licenced firearm dealers, theres dedicated shops, otherwise its just sports and camping sort of shops that sell them.
To own a firearm, once you have a licence, you still have to wait 28 days (more 5 weeks) to get a permit to own the firearm.
Ah thanks for all the help fellas, have decided to also go and get the C license as well as i have a legit reason (work on the family farm a fair bit too) so hopefully i should be right to apply for it.
Cheers boys
