Default Anyone do MMA or BJJ?

    Hi,
I've been doing MMA for some time now and starting to do BJJ. After getting the genitals kicked etc. I've decided to buy a groin guard. Just wondering what you find best?
I'm looking at the Spider Guard shorts/cup at:
    MMA Factory - $75 w/ shipping.
Just wondering if anyone has used similiar and if they found it helpful? This particular one looks like it could be good for movement but it's flexible and not sure if it would give good protection. In the video it shows it getting driven over, hit by hammer etc..

    or theres the Shock Doctor.
Shock Doctor Ultra LAX Short with BioFlex Cup - MMAWarehouse.com
which ends up being ~$95 w/ shipping.

On the MMA Warehouse page, they also sell the Spider Guard but it's only got 1 review while the Shock Doctor has 18.

    ny Opinions?

Looking at the way the Spider Guard is designed, it looks much more breathable and comfortable.
I did Karate/MMA for eight years. When ever I competed I used a poxy white one and the main thing that pissed me off was that it DOESN'T breath.

The Shock Doctor looks like its designed around that pox white thing... So if I had to choose I would go with the Spider Guard.

My old Sensai imports alot of fight gear, I dunno if he has Boxes but he has Official UFC gloves and Trunks... There is some mad gear there. Check it out if you are interested.

    Good luck

Haha. But it's the general section.
    Everything non related to commodores.
Nyway, I've got one of those crappy white hard cups..... but they are VERY uncomfortable & dig into your sides when your trying to lock with your legs.
That's why I'm looking for something different, and before I spend ~$80 I wanted to get some opinions.

    Thx Ben,
I'm just scoping out the site now. I've been using a "pox" white hard cup, but they dig into the side of you while your trying to lock with your legs. Never really knew it was that important for your groin to breathe haha. I was leaning for the Spider because it looks more comfortable, but the Shock Doctor as what the company does is make protective gear, my mouth guard is Shock Doctor so they are a good company. But like you said about the pox white ones, they look similiar in design.

    My advice:

I never wore a box when I used to train, well, I lie. I when I started I wore a box but stopped after a while. This was for 2 reasons.

    1. If I got hit in the nuts during sparring, it was good motivation to train harder, get better and avoid being hit again.
    2. You've not going to be wearing a box on the street, since I trained mainly for self defence, I few kicks in the nuts in a sparring environment will prepare you better to handle it better if it happens on the street where the concequences of going down are higher.

Can't help you much on this one, as thankfully my girl is a girl and I don't have to worry about this and my son is only 4, but just wanted to mention this website: Shogun Martial Arts and Boxing Supplies - Boxing equipment, clothing and accessories - Shogun Martial Arts and Boxing Supplies - Boxing equipment, clothing and accessories this is where we buy all their gear from, they are pretty good and send all over the country, they may or may not be better on price than you are looking at.

in the ideo when that guy hits it with a hammer it almost completly fold in. if thats what a hammer can do imagine what any kick will do?

I know what you mean Jester about in the streets, but we're training. In training/sparring we use gloves aswell and shin pads (if full contact) but in the streets we won't have those either.
Generally you don't get hit in the nuts in sparring anyway. I'd rather be safe than sorry - Especially cause I've just had over-night operation after getting kicked in the nuts.

    I decided on:

Shock Doctor Power / Core Compression Shorts + Shock Doctor Titan Alloy Flex Cup. (I went with most expensive cup they offer (hoping cost = comfort)) = $72
