Iphone Trouble.

Hey guys, i know this has nothing to do with cars what so ever but im hopeing there is a it wizz reading this that can help me out.

Got a iphone off my mate 2 days ago, it was locked so he gave it to me for $50. Its a first gen 16gig 2.2.1.

After hours and hours i finaly got it jailbroken and all worked well, thought i would give it an update, after the update it went back to being locked (found out you cant update your phone if its been jailbroken). Just figured ill jailbreak it again but this time i cant. Been trying for atleast 5 hours last night and still trying in the morning.

When i try to restore it back to 2.2.1 i get error messages. tryed googling an answer for hours but found nothing. Before i get into it more is there anyone here that knows about iphones and how to do all this?

If it's stolen and the imei is listed when u update it the imei gets blacklisted in the govt. Database. I have a hot first gen Iphone and I updated it and now it's locked permanently....

There must be a way. i can restore it to 3.0 but cant restore it back to 2.2.1

time for a new phone. if you jail braked the phone cause it was locked you are unable to update it again from that operating system. only fix you have is to contact apple and send the phone off to them for a re-flash of it's bits. otherwise it's a dead phone, nothing you can do with it. sorry

dam, reinstalling itunes and downloading new firmware now. If this dont work ill try it again on my laptop and if it still down work on my laptop then yeah i give up.

welll. what version did u update it to?
i have version 3.1.3. (Latest version)

every version can be jail broken
i searched for hours trying to do my mates phone
and in the end we got it (actually it took the whole dogs vs essiondon game)

ill give u links for whatever version u have just let me no what one it is

whats the benefits of jailbreaking?

jailbreaking alows u to run programs not authrozied by apple, i.e. other programs. not just apple apps or stuff. it doesnt unlock the sim part.

Thanks for the help jonno, its currently 3.1.3 but i want to put it back to 2.2.1 but cant because every time i restore it on itunes it gives me errors. Tryed in DFU mode and i get errors, tryed in recovery mode and still i get errors.

the only thing i can do with it now is make emergency calls lol.

I have tryed all the jailbreaking programs such as blackrain, redsnow, quickpwn, zipphone and yeah... nothing.

There are a couple of cool things you can do with a jailbroken phone, like change the msg tones and backgrounds and stuff, and it is easier to unlock the network apparently. But the new iphone software due to come out with the new iphone gives you most of that so...

if the phone is stolen i wouldnt suggest taking it to a store or apple to unlock because they track every cerial number and who purchased it...
i unno if its for all but apple store did it for my sisters phone an computer and telstra sent them a formm from mine?

by the looks of it i might just take it in tomorrow. Its seriously doing my head in. whats taking me hours and hours will most likely take them acouple minutes to fix lol.

place iphone face down in luke warm water, (around 37-38 degrees) then leave to cool .once cool place in the freezer for about 24 hours, pull out of freezer and put into a convection oven preheated to around 250 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown. then let us know what happens.........

alright... Once u have installed 3.1.3 the only Jailbreak u can use is spirit (Spirit)

Any version 3.1.2 and BELOW could also be 'hacktivated' which is a fake activation instead of using apples servers.

for version 3.1.3 You will need to activate the phone via itunes with a supported sim card first (whichever carrier has it locked) and then run Spirit to Jailbreak it.

Or.. google for felix bruns, you can then download 3.1.2, put it in DFU and downgrade and then jailbreak that with blackra1n. (www.blackra1n.com)

However, since you have updated to 3.1.3 and thus updated the baseband, you will not be able to unlock the carrier, only jailbreak it. The baseband CANNOT be downgraded.

Simple !! PM me if u need any extra details on anything.

You were a massive help mate, i just downgraded from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 then redsn0w took over which seemed to actually work. even got cydia on it now.

Your welcome. once apple release iOS4 (version 4 firmware) an unlock will be released for 3.1.3.
That should be within the month, hopefully !!

the biggest thing with ANY iphone is DO NOT UPDATE if you want to keep the ability to jailbreak and/or unlock
