Hey guys,
I am a 20 year old VY driver and AAMI have quoted me a policy for 400/year comprehensive under my dads name, only thing is they say there is no fees for any additional drivers (whether they are young, old, tranny or gay - it doesnt seem to matter). The excess is an additional 1000, however this seems to be on par with my current insurer SGIO who charge 1000/year premium!
It seems a little too good to be true to me, so i was enquiring whether anyone has been in such a situation and can offer any advice?
I was in a similar position nrma wanted $1900 for my vz in my name and an excess of $550 plus age excess of $750. AAMI was $1080 comprehensive in my name and excess is $500 plus age $1250.
I opted for AAMI and after one claim i see no problem with them, yes it took alot to get them to use my prefered repairer but the customer service i recieved was fault free; work colegaue has had numerous claims with them and everytime has not had a problem and always given a free hire car.
**do be very cautious of them if you make a claim, always opt for your chocie of repairer and fight to send it there cos there are some places working for them that will do 20-30 car repairs a week (with one booth and staff that arent the best at their job) and they occasionally recieve a copy of your repairers quote so they can undercut it to get the job....i wont name places but they exist.
i hope this is the kind of answer you want
I am with AAMI with all our cars at work. From memory it's only the excess that changes depending on who prangs the car.

after allways being with nrma, in the last year noticed how much the policy had gone up on the car i had at the current time, when purchasing my new car vy s2 clubby i shopped around, as a 34 yr old with one accident in the last 3 yrs nrma quoted me nearly $2000 where as aami quoted me half that at around the $1000 mark, unworry my ass.
no second guesses to which insurer i went with.
now also have home contents insurance with aami.
Insurance is a funny thing, I had always got decent quotes from AAMI and even had a policy with them a while back.
30yo male, no speeding fines, accidents etc so basically a fault free driving record but when it came to the crunch they wanted just over $2000 with a $1000 excess for the Clubsport, I ended up going through Savings & Loans for $850 and a $350. Now of course the ball game changes once the mods start but that's another story.
At the end of the day it pays to shop around, if you get something which you think is good value from a well known insurance company I'd jump at it whilst you can.
One thing that really drives me up the wall is the premiums going up because of other states having storms / damgage etc I'm sorry but I couldn't give a toss about them nor should I be paying for it but you can only vote with your feet.
I find it pays to shop around. When I had the SS the best rate I got was from NRMA, then when I got the Corolla it was AAMI, in the past it's been JustCar for the VT. Different insurers target different demographics, so depending on what you drive, who you are, and where you live, you may or may not fit into the "sweet spot" for their risk profile. Most of them will give you quotes online, so grab a beer and go window shopping
Edit: Has anyone else noticed that premiums keep going up these days? Once upon a time, it used to be a given that if you didn't have a crash your premium would go down a little the following year (in line with your car depreciating and your personal risk profile improving) - nowadays you get mobs like the NRMA actually selling you "pay $50 and we'll fix your premium for 2 years!" etc. Where did the world go wrong?

AAMI are the biggest rip off insurance companies around.
Do what I did,go on the net and shop around.
Most insurance companies offer fast quotes online.
They are underwritten by CGU but having said that I don't think you'll strike a single person out there who will say anything good about any insurance company.
At the end of the day any insurance company will take your money but are real pains to deal with when it comes to dishing out.
LOL, AAMI are rip offs?
Dealing with them at the moment. They're easy to deal with. They're rates are competitive. So as far as im concerned they're apples.
Was insured with GIO, they can go fist f*** themselves. $2000 per anum for a 1998 Subaru Liberty with no mods...
$660 for a 2003 VY SS with extensive mods through AAMI. Excess is a little higher then i would like, but the idea is NOT to smash it... Either way I still come out on top.
AAMI are great, have had my last 3 cars there and they're been the cheapest by far.
+3 for AAMI customer service delt with them twice myself and a friend once, helpful and no trouble/fast payouts (less than 2weeks from accident to cash being in my bank)
-100 from CGU will do anything to get out of paying. (bit of a story with that one) Cane harvester caught fire, they said get it fixed and we'll pay up later, couldnt get old engine going so got another one (VERY cheap) cost $40k all up, they paid $25k after 4months of trying to get out of it, still trying to get the last $15k out of them at this stage
my $0.02![]()
i shopped around and found aami the cheapest by far, all insurance companies are rip offs, that's how they make good coin, if they didn't there wouldn't be so many of them around, get the best quote for your vehicle and go with it, if you change your mind you can always cancel and get a new policy with another insurer
"Sanchez paid flood insurance premium for years, but then the insurer decided to go out of business when the flood came because management had spent all the premium on hookers and private jets."
Just a suggestion - maybe do a pole of who uses what insurer and whether they are satisfied. Id be keen to see that.
Sounds right
It's all about a dollar figure to the insurance companies, but they tried to deduct $1500 from the payout for a light scratch that would buff out, I had to provide 10 examples of the same car with similar K's that were selling for more. which i did and in turn i got a higher payout after 3 months of crap. Luckily i had a second car to drive to work and back.
From what i've heard AAMI tell panel shops to "just bog it" instead of say re skinning a door. That's just not on in my books, There is being cheap and then there is cutting corners.
After 38 yrs of no insurance and no smashes, [ya can't get cheaper than that] i thought i should do something about my latest addition.
So with me opting for the higher excess of $1000, and at just under $600, Budget Direct was about the best i could find on the net, although Allianz was competitive as well.
So in reply to the original OP, all i would say is, read the fine print very carefully, cause it's otherwise a pretty good deal
i went just car. underwritten by aami. pay just under 400 for 3rd party, icluding fire and theft.
