Anyone got information on this?
I'm on my L's still, up to about 70 hours (only taken me about a month, and its all legit, drive every day lol) but i hear they want to rise it to 220 hours or something in Victoria, even by July 1st? I'm interested to hear why.
I think the more the better also add in a compulsory defensive driving course.
Ive been driving for 3 years and still find that I need improvements here and there.
And if 200 comes out you just need your 120? (i think thats what it is now)
Hit the star under this post if it was any help to you =D
Yep, all i need to do is 120 still.
I totally agree, the more experience the better, but there will be people bitching for sure. I wanted to do a defensive driving course to gain more experience, but everywhere i looked said you needed P's. Kind of sucks, seeing i actually want to learn how to handle the car in certain situations etc.
The ones that bitch are the ones that die first =D

Sorry, but 220 hours of learner driving is plan bull shit. How about the same amount of hours now with a Licensed driving instructor - sounds a lot smarter than sending them off with some random open licensed driver. I find it scary that I'm deemed competent by the RTA to supervise learners, and I'm flat out working out what I'm doing some days.
Bare in mind tho, not every single Learner has access to people with Open License who dont mind helping them get there hours.. Hence why 220hrs is shiiitt.
I feel for the Apprentices .. Who earn very little..And who's Folks dont help out with there Hours for whatever reason.
Hours are shit IMO, we dont have "Hours' here in ACT which Im glad, but I personally see it as pointless.
Bring it in, to many shit drivers on the road.
I know so many people who think they are an awesome driver caus they done 120 hours, WTF you still ****ing suck.
220 Hours is easy, I got my 120 hours in just over 3 months, then just gave up with the stupid log book, but I dare say I would have been over or close 1000 hours.
i got 240 hours, back then 120 hours was a recommendation.
I've been supervising a few learners recently to help them get to 120hours. its not easy especially when 9/10 the parents bail. Its funny how stressful it actually is to supervise.
Until Australia catches up with mandatory PROFESSIONAL instruction in driving in all conditions, emergency situation simulation and advanced car control (at the cost of the learner not the govt.) in all conditions the standards of new drivers will remain mediocre at best.
There is a much more direct link between vehicle crashes (I don't advocate the use of the term "accident") and inadequate driver education, training and attitude than there is simply with SPEED as the govt woiuld have the sheeple believe.
Yeah, spending longer with another useless driver teaching you their bad habbits wont fix the problem.
Need link to thread with mark skaife video in it
I got my license after 30 hours, none of this log book stuff either. I've neither been in an accident nor caused one. I'm glad i don't have to go through this rubbish but i can see why it is necessary, although there still seem to be enough freaks on the road.

Nah it's pretty bullshit IMO, I got the 120 hours and been on my P's, but it just stresses your parents (not mine just in general), most people will just lie about it and the fact is you don't learn more until you drive by yourself, which is unfortunately what we can't fix
