hey how are ya fellas havnt posted here in a while
im 19 years old Ive been laboring for the last two years, i now want to start an appretice ship with a plumber.
are there any tradies on these forums?
and what does everyone think the best trade is to get into for $$ and work
thanks sam
Dunny diver wouldn't be my first choice for a trade but then again you could do a lot worse. Plumbers, chippie, sparkies all make excellent money if they are prepared to do the work.

haha dunny diver
i know someone who is an aussie diesel mechanic, they're meant to be in short supply and money is good
diesel mech's get good money if you can prioritize jobs well, and can work under pressure. my family has been in the road transport game for over 80 years and those two things are the most critical. you might not be the worlds best spanner man, but if you can still give the same quality of work under pressure and can work out which jobs need to be done first you'll be doing very well.
thats the 2 main things we look for in diesel mechanics. if they struggle at these things they won't be employed for all that long.
but you can get good money, with use of work vehicles too.
i'm a cabinetmaker and i'm only on $33 an hour.
i think carpenters etc can make more than that

been thinking about this.
apply for the job you want not what pays the most. i made that mistake, i was an apprentice fitter/machinist, started off ok but i really didnt like it. bad stuff happened and i ended up "leaving" that job.
im now an apprentice mechanic and i love it doesn't feel like such a chore going to work i enjoy what i do.
just some past experience from me, hoping people learn from my mistakes i suppose

you can make a mint out of any trade. as long as you work for yourself instead of working for someone else :P well with mechanics anyway. in the country, i think when i was an apprentice, the rate for labour was 60 and hour. plus the mark up on stuff like oil, exhausts, tyres etc.
100%
when i started in imports i wasnt making a huge amount, but it was a job i really loved doing. over the years it has gotten much better pay-wise, mostly in part to saving and re-investing back into the company so i saw more return from the money i put back in.
the work bores the shit out of me generally, but my own hours/easy work and about 4 test cars a year, which are really challenging, i wouldnt change anything.
on the flipside i have a mate who works on concrete cos' it pays really well. he is a dumb-shit and the work suits him. i would go bonkers if i had to sit around waiting for concrete to go off and the screed day in/ day out. BORRRING, and the muppets he works with.... not enough money in the world to make me to do that crap.
I'm a plasterer and I work by myself. Last financial year my turn over was 105K however out of that I pay my own tax and supply my own materials. At the end of the day it's good money but there is tmes where I can go for 2 weeks without a job and thus no income.

Im not a tradie but the best advice I can give is not to worry about the money to much, as the others have said you can make plenty of money in any trade so best thing to do is pick the trade you enjoy, not the one that makes the most money. Whilst lots of money makes a job easier to take if you dont like it earning a little less but doing something you enjoy is much more rewarding and getting up for work each day is easier aswell. Matt
