i was thinking to myself watching the V8 supercars yesterday, how bullshit it is now. i would love nothing more than flashing back to the hk monaro days, stock cars, on shitty tyres. stock gearbox etc.
its so... commercialized.
im not forced to do anything. i was expressing my opinion, which this forum is about, FYI.
i suppose everyone could stop posting what they thought, but then the forum is ****ed isnt it.
I agree. It is now all about parity and control this, control that. Bring back GT production racing or even Group A.
v8 'supercars' are too boring. i don't watch but i'll go to a race if i get a free ticket. little to no resemblance to the road cars, so they might as well become nascar (i think that is happening). its the way with all motor racing, starts out good, gets awesome then some new competitors come in that smash everyone. then theres a rule change because the people from the start think its unfair and the decline starts.
v8's are nearly at the bottom of the decline. not very exciting, people cant try big moves because they get penalised too much for it, cars are nowhere near any road car that they are 'based' on. sure, if i was a racer and got offered a drive in the v8's i would probably contemplate it, but theres not many places to go after it. ambrose went to nascar, thats about it.
once youre in the class you're stuck there.
touring car masters are better to watch, some cars have strong points where others have weak, and its up to the drivers to drive to their vehicles advantages. which always makes for good racing.
back in my home town we have a dirt speed way. they used to have demo derbys, caravan races, monster trucks, all that. insurance is a killer. so i cant even go back home and watch good car races!
Kind like all sports you see on tv these days. Overdone and overpaid. MMA should be free to air dammit!!!!!

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
Albert Einstein
I rarely watch it anymore.
I reckon they first lost the plot when they stuck a Chev into a VP. The beginning of the end.
Grp C & Grp A were the best days. Truly production based 'touring cars'. V8 Supercars is edging closer to stock car racing with every season that passes.
I watch it when I need to fall asleep... Every time I flick it on... 10min later I'm out like a light...
I always watch SBS when the V8's are on. Often has older vr's and xf falcons etc racing. Is unreal watching them cruise around without ABS and all the other limited crap that the new age v8's have.
Bring back the Biff!
V8SC doesn't use ABS or traction control, and they use a locked diff.
Wow, another thread on how shit the V8SC's have become......
There are plenty of other racing classes televised.

Nuff said really.

^^^^LOL.....
I used to watch it religiously every time it was on, and come Bathurst.....my kids used to hate it as i was up at 0300 in the morning and would have the BBQ cranked by 0500 cooking all the nasty greasy fatty stuff and wkaing them up to come watch it with me.........it used to be full on.
I haven't watched a V8 race in years now thou..........am very disappointed with how it's become![]()

Go see a tractor pull - It's an unlimited sport, and it's INSANE !
dude, the diesel powered tractors in the tractor pulls are STUPID!! i think its the pro-stock class or something. stock engine block.
turbo lag is huge but once they get on boost all hell breaks loose. they're using like 150psi (not a typo) to get moving.
YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
um, can't see that being done with a standard block lol.
Making a powerful diesel isn't as simple as adding more boost as it is with petrol.
70 PSi is common on pro stock - alias 'Smokers'. i like the outrageous stuff. Doubles, triples, quad engines & more, Supercharged, turbocharged, even some turbojet and turboprop aircraft engines...
Insane.
I love the V8's, the parity has evened out the competition so you dont see one car dominating all the time. Jamie Whincup has dominated the last couple of years but there was some good competition and he had to work for the wins. Back in the late 90's early 2000's Skaife dominated with a car that was a cut above the resat because HRT had a bigger budget. Control tyres and brakes etc have evened the playing field because all of the teams are using the same components regardless of their budget.
As for being commercialised, well its an expensive sport and the money has tocome from somewhere.
The equivalent of the good old days is the Bathurst 12hr race, all different makes on the track at once, its a great race to watch and no one goes to it. TV channels give it bugger all air time and many of the big name sponsors arent interested. Matt
Historic racing cars are my favourite, much more exciting than everything else to watch.
