AN Austrian artist has created a replica Porsche GT3 using just aluminium foil, sticky tape and a bicycle.

Hannes Langeder calls his Porsche the Ferdinand GT3 RS, which he says stands for "Rad Sports".

Created as an artistic comment questioning whether a sports car exists as a driving thrill or a symbol of wealth, the Ferdinand took over 1000 hours to build.

The artwork is currently on display at the KunstMuseum Linz in Austria, but Langeder has also made a spoof "sales pitch" video promoting it as a real sports car.

In the clip, Langeder describes the car's trademark "ultra light construction" technology that leaves out "all unnecessary components" so the vehicle weighs less than 150kg.

In a dig at both the energy consumption and interior size of a real Porsche, Langeder says the lack of an engine "reduces emissions to a low level, breaking records" and frees up space so "the Ferdinand can also be used for transportation".

Giant air-intakes "prevent the driver from sweating too much".

After running through the vehicle's features, the Ferdinand is taken on a pedal powered test-drive around a race-track, feet visibly pumping below the floorpan as a real sports car roars past.

The clip has been viewed more than 1.2 million times so far on YouTube.
