Yeah I wish I new where to get a S2 VT SS in decent condition for $8-9K! Let alone $6k!
If you want an SS mate you'll either get a VT S2 (so 5.7L gen3) with no change from $10K, or a VT S1 (5.0L engine) with MAYBE a few grand for some mods. Count a VX out for <$10K. Me and my gf are currently searching for a S2 VT SS for her, and honestly we havnt even found 1 so far for under $10K that we would buy. So good luck

I know that WH 5.7Ltrs aren't worth much anymore but have heaps of room and options with some reasonable grunt!

Plenty of LS1 V8's to be had for that money:
    HOLDEN Cars For Sale - carsales.com.au - carsales.com.au

Possibly if you were in Canberra you'd have to take a trip to Sydney, but it's not too far

Yeah actually you prob would pick one up (like in the above links) for <$10 depending on how picky you want to be (i.e if your happy with a calais or a statesman etc instead of SS, or if you can deal with some dents etc). We are looking for a S2 VT SS, auto, with between 120-170,000kms, with clean paintwork with no dents etc, and NO aesthetic mods other then possibly rims, and yeah so far we havnt found any for under $10k. They always have something wrong, like a dented panel, high kms, shitty interior, other side of the country, tryhard bodykit installed etc. But if your willing to deal with that sort of stuff and/or spend the money later to fix it then you'll prob pick something up relatively cheap (depending where you are and how far you want to travel)

I wouldnt touch a VT honestly.
VS SS - about 300kg lighter then the VT and with the same motor. The Gen3 VT's aren't worth writing home about.

the series one vt ss and some of the calais had the 5.0l G.C, it was the series 2 that got the 5.7, as for them being dodgey the vast majority of them were called back and the motors were rebuilt by holden, if you find the engine number on the block most will be followed by an "X" stating that is was infact rebuilt, with alot of the problems righted

Beg to differ mate, most people in Canberra just seem to think their cars are made of gold, though if you hunt around you will eventually get a person willing to negotiate.
    Alternatively,
head to pickles, here in Canberra 5.7litre VT SS go for $2000 - $4000
