    Default Hero Killed Saving Family

The 25-year-old security guard was mercilessly struck down and repeatedly cut and stabbed.

He died of horrific injuries in hospital on Friday night following the apparently random attack at the family home in Clingan Ave, Lurnea, late on Thursday.

More than 100 friends and family took turns to say goodbye to him in Liverpool Hospital on Friday night. Family members said his last whispered words came at 9.30pm: "I'm passing out, Mum. I love you."

The attack happened about 11.45pm after the family had been celebrating the 20th birthday of Mr Burgess's younger brother, Jacob.

A few minutes after Jacob had left the house, there was a knock at the door, older brother Terrence, 29, told The Sunday Telegraph.
Inside were Kesley, 25, his long-time girlfriend Krystal McLaughlin, 25, his mother, Tracey, 49, and his stepfather, Garry, 56.

Kesley and his partner had been living at the Lurnea house to try to save money for their own home.

"Garry undid the latch and they kicked the door in," Terrence Burgess said.

After knocking Garry to the ground, the gang targeted Kesley's mother, slicing her hand with a machete as she tried to escape.

"Kesley locked his mum and girlfriend in the bedroom, told them he loved them, and then went and fought them all," Terrence said.

"To his family and friends, he died a hero."

The gang also slashed the family's pet dog, though it survived.

The robbers fled soon after making off with Mrs Burgess's handbag.

It contained a few items, including car keys and a wallet containing her pension money.

"Kesley died for a handbag," Terrence said.

"There was nothing there to take. They stole her pension money."

Police said the attackers were not known to the family. They said they were searching for four men of Islander appearance but the family described two of the invaders as being of Lebanese descent, another as Caucasian and the fourth of African appearance.

Terrence said the attack was completely unprovoked. "This could have been anyone's family."

Returning to the crime scene yesterday, Mrs Burgess said her life had been torn apart by the tragedy.

"It would have been kinder if they had walked in and just shot him," she said.

Instead, the group went on a rampage against Kesley, using an axe and machete on his arms and legs. The Burgess family is now making an emotional plea for justice, anyone with further information being urged to come forward.

"Come forward, anyone who knows anything, do the right thing - for my brother," Terrence said.

"They're gutless. Their day is coming."

What a terrible thing to have happened. I really hope true justice prevails but its probably wishful thinking in this day and age.

Amazing, all 3 descriptions all match 3 of the highest races of violent crimes per capita in Australia.

Time to close the doors to all these people over represented in these crimes.

    Very brave indeed.

I will never understand why crims do that sort of thing they have now committed murder over a handbag and some pension money. Hardly worth it really, absolute scum bags. Hopefully they will get caught, hi profille media focused incidents like this tend to yield more results because of public outcry. Hopefully one of them slips up and says something to the wrong person and they tell the cops.

These pricks should be hung, drawn & quartered!

Though knowing our judicial system they we get a slap on the wrist because no doubt they have had a "tough upbringing" that somehow eleviates them of any responsibility for their actions.

    Kesley is a Hero.
He died being a gentleman, putting the lives of his loved ones first.
I hope I have the balls to do what he did, should it ever come to that.

My plea to the Public : Bring back the death sentence, find these gutless murdering criminals, and kill them. Right now - being jailed for life for killing these 4, sounds worthwhile. Making the world a better place, 1 dead scumbag at a time.

Heres a simpler idea, stop importing people from countries where such violence is an everyday act, lets stop the bleeding hearts telling us we must take in these people and expect them to change. Let's send these same bleeding hearts away with these groups of violent immigrants. Vic has only just released crime squad info of a specialised unit in african crime...We have a lebanese crime group, african, vietnamese, asian etc etc, tells us these groups do not want to be here. So lets follow the same logic as every road law. Punish the entire community for the acts of some.

    Very easy fix.

Not by the police though, because then they will be victimised because they've had a tough childhood, they'll sit around in a tax payer minimum security motel for maybe a year or two watching foxtel and then be let out because they've 'rehabilitated'.

There are no words to describe these animals and the only fitting punishment would be death by the same means they inflicted on their victim.

Time to get a gun I think.

This sort of shit has been going on in the world for a while now, when I lived in Poland there was 2 police officers who had their skulls crushed by the boots of 10 teenagers in staircase of our block.

This is nothing new for the world.

What's concerning, no, what's ****ed up is that it's come to Australia...

And all that for a bloody handbag?? WTF?? You can sit around on your arse in Australia and get the dole! Why did these animals have to murder this bloke over a few extra bucks?

    Just ****ed...

I dont know about the death penalty, sure it would be good for them to have to live for that time knowing the day they are going to die, but dieing slowly of old age in a prison is far more fitting and well worth the burden on the tax paying average joe.

The point is if these animals knew they would be punished by death there would be less chance they would do this kind of crap for a handbag. The prison system is not as bad as you may think. (My uncle is a prison guard)

Could it really an un prevoked attack though? Would you really go to all that trouble if they only stole that handbag and pension money

in the report it says 'attack was completely unprovoked' but kinda gets you thinking. example sake if you and 3 other mates have knives, and one guy runs at you wouldnt you throw the weapons down and use your fists? your going to win anyway. just thinking maybe the story is missing something..
