im just doing the course for my liscence and if i pass that im going to go for a gun liscence aswell , just wondering what career path you have taken?
personally i would rather start with a security patrol rather than bouncing , other than that what options are there for a new guy?
first off what state u in
south aus.
I started as static security during weekdays and bouncing weekends. Then started armed security with armaguard, then became manager of armed security company and continue crowd control on weekends.
You may have to do a "re-shoot" every six months if you do go for your firearms. Is a basic shooting test to prove you are still competant. Best money is in armed security or "bouncing". Generally the rougher the venue, the better money...
Options are static security, crowd control, armed security, cash in transit, and dog patrols (with dog not ur misses).
im working in security in the mining industry just as a static gaurd in the village coin can be very good depending on site and roster
If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money
whats static security? is that like a mall cop or something?
static means you're at the one location, buildings, construction sites etc. Mall security comes more under retail. Crowd control is always fun if you're working a decent venue with other decent guys.
ok so static sounds like a good place to start for a fish then? im a solid guy so someones gonna probably want to place me on a door somewhere , hoping if that happens its a relaxed venue.
Crowd control would be pretty good i reckon mate. Better if you can get a go at a music festival or something. When we're barrier for shows we always talk with the dudes and stuff between songs/sets, theyre usually always pretty good blokes.
Bonus if you get to work at festivals with good bands too lol.
But if dragging drunk crowd surfers over the barrier isnt your thing, then don't do it haha
Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast
Be prepared to be thrown in the deep end for every eviction from any venue when you first start crowd control. Your supervisors will make you do all the hard and risky work to test you out initially. You should know within the first few weeks if crowd control is for you!
correct me if i'm wrong, but don't you have to have a good record if you are getting your security licence, i remember on another thread you mentioned that you have done time, be worth looking into before you start spending money.
Most states require you to have 7 years clean record with no convictions.
Western Australia has recently brought in that any conviction at ANY time in your past will stuff your chances of getting a security licence. Obviously driving offences arent included. Assualts, fraud, stealing and drug offences are a guarenteed no no when applying for security.
yeh have done time but that was over 10 years ago , i spoke with the firm thats training me today and it wont be a problem.
