Was driving to work this morning and saw a new FPV coming up from behind. When he was next to me (I was in the right lane, he was in the left) I glanced over and noticed the police lights on the dash so I immediately noticed it was an undercover cop.
Then his lane banked up so he jumped behind me and started tailgating me, then he erratically jumped back into the left lane. Not only that I was on the speed limit and eventually he sped past me.
He was going the same way I was so I was keeping an eye on his movements. He was erratically jumping between lanes.
I'm not sure whether I should report this to police, I took note of the number plate, time and vehicle and direction. Seems like double standards to me, I bet if I was doing the same as him I would have been pulled over and charged with careless driving or something along those lines.
If anything these guys should be leading by example and following the road rules just like every other driver on the road. Unless they are called to an emergency (in which case they switch their sirens on) under no circumstances should they be driving like a lunatic.
Thoughts guys? I understand that by reporting him with no proof there probably won't be anything done, but on the other hand it would be difficult to legally obtain proof so what would everyone else do? I don't think this guy should get away with it.

I don't think you can do much now. Apparently you have to report bad driving when you see it happen. I saw a driver who was quite obviously drunk one night, nearly hit me three times, so I drove off the hwy exit and straight to the cop shop, and they said they couldn't do anything, even though I had the number plates.
Probably no chance if it was a cop. I do feel like it's double standards as well. I hate anyone driving around me like that and have seen a few cops do it too.
If he had police lights on the dash, he wasn't an undercover cop. The point of undercover is that people do not know you're a cop.
Imagine this...
Undercover cop: "yo man, me and my homies wanna buy some smack... make it a long term deal. you in?"
Dealer: "what up dog? those lights on your dash mean you're a cop! I aint no drug dealer!"
Would be a waste of time.
Chances are you saw an unmarked traffic opperations car. Chances are he was trying to get a reaction from someone, you know, try and get them to "race" him. Then they can be done for a whole raft of laws they break! They're more than entitled to do that imo and I don't care if people think it's entrapment. If you're inclined to "race" or break the law with an unmarked cop car, then you're inclined to do it other times and shouldn't be allowed to drive!
Same, I have an orange set for worksites that sit in the dash..

Driving home southbound last night on Sandgate road at Virginia in Brisbane. Marked Cop car x 2 and an Ambulabce stop in the right hand land, and do an illegal U turn at the lights. There was no turning lane so the right hand lane is instantly backed up for miles. Im caught in it, no one can get into the left hand lane because of teh flowing traffic.
Ignorant, selfish, rude and illegal. No partylghts so they weren't in pursuit, so there are no excuses.
Ignore the local cop shops, reported it straight to operations in Roma street the city. They record all conversations. Game them the last cop cars rego. Double demerit points and an official reprimand is supposed to occur.
Personally - HOW F**KING DARE THESE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LAW BREAK TEH VERY LAWS THEY TRY AND CHARGE ME WITH !!!!!!!

Another thread on someone complaining about the way Police drive. Get over it. If you can't, then you go and do the training thats required to become an officer, then begin dealing with whinging scum and low lifes who have nothing better to do than break the law. Not a job I would want.
I ride my bike to work and in the short distance which I ride, I see hoons, people talking on mobile phones who have no idea of their surroundings, lack of indication on roundabouts, red light runners, cars squealing wheels around corners, excessive speeders. I continue riding and forget about them.
If you are that concerned, become a law enforcement officer then you too can drive like this and have the public whinge about you. Just because they are police officers, it doesn't mean they are perfect. And as said before, it doesn't matter what anybody else does on the road, if you drive within the law, then you have nothing to worry about.
A mechanic doesn't always have the most perfectly running vehicle........a lawyer will not always act within the law.......a dentist may not always have the perfect teeth......so why the hell do you think a cop will drive perfectly 100% of the time.....Get Over It Mate.
See this is the problem with Australia! I never said you have to be perfect, all I'm saying is lead by example. You've totally misunderstood the point I am trying to make. The attitude of some people really disgust me sometimes. Does that mean you do a half arsed attempt at your job?

It means that anybody, anytime may not be doing their job 100% correctly all of the time. This is an example. Thats life and you have to get over it.
I bet if you do a skid, or speed, or you don't indicate when you are supposed to........I bet you don't immediately think "shit, where is the cop to book me?".
Concentrate on what your doing and the rest of the world will continue to revolve around you without problem!
Are those that uphold the law, beyond the law ? Where does this stop ? Are they allowed to kill people simply because they uphold the law ?
Fact - they broke the law in a situation that did not require them to break the law to carry out their immediate duties.
Fact - In doing so they basically said to everyone watching - the illegal u turn laws can be broken with impunity. Way to lead by example. Illegal U turns for All !!!
"Nonsense, this is the kind of coverings what we humans wear at this period of time. I'm quite sure of it."

And the same goes for you. If you break the law and get away with it, then you will think its ok to do it again.....unless you get caught and you will think twice next time.
Police are not immune to being perfect....I know this very well.....But tell me who is perfect at their job these days 100% of the time?
Harden up and get over what this officer did. His driving isn't an example to follow, whether its right or wrong...forget it......you concentrate on your driving and you will be fine.
Oh, next time you do something illegal on the road, make sure you go and report yourself immediately to the local police station as we can't have motorists on the road doing anything against the law.
I don't condone this driving by the officer, but I do know that nobody is perfect at their job....police are no exception.
These sorts of threads always seem to come from people who think they are hard done by in this life.
Gee, I am no saint on the road, and if I get away with any illegal acts, then I think whoa Im lucky, if I get caught for any illegal acts, then I cop it sweet. This officer did a minor driving offence, big deal.....earlier on he may have been showing off to his mates and putting the lights and siren on when not required.....also an illegal act. Where do we draw the line.
Everything in life is about interpretation........you obviously interpret this officer as being in the wrong. Well unfortunately he may have been, but he may also have been heading somewhere important which didn't require lights and sirens. Whether it required this driving is again, up to your own interpretation. But until you know everything that the officer was thinking and doing at the time, then you cannot accurately comment on the situation. The police have many things that go on behind the scenes that are not common knowledge. This could have been on of those situations.
Again, Im not condoning his actions, but also you and I do not know the full story about what he was up to. Become and officer and you too can do this if it turns you on! Cops are not perfect citizens by any stretch of the imagination.
Move on....

I disagree with almost everything you have said there. This situation had nothing to do with perfection on the job. This was done purposefully. I'm sorry but I can't see how you can tailgate someone by mistake. I also can't see how driving erratically in and out of traffic to be a mistake. I don't think you will completely understand this concept until you witness a major consequence such as death caused by these actions by a police officer. There is a reason these vehicles are fitted with sirens and lights, and that is to notify people around them that they are heading towards an emergency and to give way to them. There is absolutely no excuse for driving this way otherwise no matter how you sugarcoat it or ignore the situation at hand.

Ok then lets play it your way.....he did the wrong thing....now what? Do you want him sacked/stood down? I can think of worse things that people do in their jobs.
Gee, politicians do hundreds of wrong things before there are consequences. Why should this officer be treated differently?
But yet again I say, its all up to interpretation. My interpretation is that if you could see every single manoeuvre with which he made, and in a court of law you can quote every little detail, I then worry about how much concentration you were putting into your driving.
lol and at one stage my ex unmarked police car even had the aerials located in the proper spots, because I positioned them where the originals had clearly been taken off! With your dashies TVR I reckon we could've done a good job back in 2007, VZ's were still popular cop cars back then as the VE's phased in !!!!My car has an aerials, and lights. does that instantly make me police?
I think its a Priority 2 job call (cant remember) which is ASAP no lights/sirens, which can stem from various reasons. There is absolutely no excuse for driving this way otherwise no matter how you sugarcoat it or ignore the situation at hand.
Honestly if your that concerned report it, go to the corruption commission or something with the complaint. All your going to do is get everyone's varying opinions here!
What CSP said is spot on, its not entrapment its to see if certain drivers will react to the bahaviour and engage in street racing or other hoon like behaviour.
As for what others are saying I can understand your frustration seeing police break traffic laws that they give you tickets for but in many cases police and other emergency services vehicles are exempt from certain traffic laws. Only certain jobs require lights and sirens. but we still break some traffic laws so that we can get to a job quicker and reduce the response times. If we take our time and sit in traffic the public bitch that we take to long, so chucking the odd illegal u-turn at lights to take a different route to a job or take a short cut means we get you jobs quicker. When not responding to a job we sit in traffic like everyone else and even when responding to jobs we rarely break the traffic laws, if its not an urgent response job we stop at red lights etc etc etc.
In a case where you see a police car do a U-turn at lights they may have been heading one way and a job is called that is back in the opposite direction so they may feel that the quickest response to this is to do a u-turn at the lights. You may not like it but if that job involved you or a family member you might appreciate it a bit more.
I more than understand why people get upset about it but on a 12hr shift I can clock upwards of 200-300km up just driving around bathurst. So we need to get from one side of town to another. In the end we are in the community to help you, the public, and if it was you sitting at home in your trashed house after someone broke into you would want the police to get there as soon as they could aswell, and sometimes they need to break the odd traffic law to do that, but they are traffic laws that they are exempt from.
If you saw a police car do an illegal u-turn and then pull into Maccas then fair enough, they can go around the block like everyone else.
Hey Ace, would you fine someone for them following you doing an illegal u-turn? I did this on the freeway when I forgot my wallet lol. I wasnt driving 25km to an off ramp and 25km home, mr policey did a u turn to capture an evil speeder, so I followed...alll i seen was his shaking head and smile
If police want to speed, do burnouts or whatever meh, half their luck, you can do it too, just join the force![]()
