    Default Anyone like to cook?

I thought i might start a thread that wasnt related to traffic laws LOL

Im a bit of an amatuer chef and like to cook and experiment with different foods etc. Its harder out of the major cities where some of the specialist markets and grocerys arent available but I do what i can. I do most of the cooking at home, when im on day shift is really the only time my wife cooks. Who else here likes to cook?

If you have some nice and simply recipes that you think are good share them with everyone, im always up for new ideas.

I'll start the ball rolling with an awsome fried rice:

    Ingredients:

This feeds four people with the sole meal being the rice, you could halve it if you were having it with a stirfry or something like that, or order chinese and make your own FR.

2 cups of brown rice (yes, has to be brown, it works the best and doesnt go gluggy)
    1 chorizo sausage
200g or so of shredded ham from wollies
    2-3 eggs depending on size
    Spring onions to tase
    minced garlic
    handful of cashew nuts
    soy sauce

Ok, cook the rice until its soft but still has a bit of a bite to it, you dont want to over cook it in the water then dice the chorizo sausage and get the shredded ham ready.

Now heat a wok, wok is best but large frying pan would work, once hot put some oil in, doesnt matter what, i use peanut oil, and scramble the eggs with some mince garlic mixed through it (add as much or as little garlic as you like). Once the eggs are cooked take them out of the pan, put them in a bowl and set them aside.

Now chuck the chorizos and the shredded ham in the wok with a bit more oil, brown them off until the oils have been released from them, this all adds flavour to the rice.

Once they are browned chuck the rice in and stir it all through, dont add to much oil cause it will make the rice go gluggy. Once the rice is starting to cook through a bit more and change colour throw the egg in and stir it through.

Then just before you served the rice throw the chopped spring onions and the cashews through, cut up most of the tops of the spring onions aswell ,the colour of them adds to the dish and stir through some soy sauce to taste.

    Enjoy.

    Whats everyone else got?

When making fried rice try mixing the soy sauce with eggs in a bowl and then stick it in the pan and scramble them and then mix with Fried rice....It tasted good to me lol

Some of the best are often simple...

Thick cut rump steak, lightlyseasoned, done medium rare on the BBQ.
    Cheesey potato bake.

    DONE!

Blue is still mooing.. my ex used to have her steak like that

I like to try to cook... usually it is rather mediocre but sometimes I pull the car out of the bag and whip up something awesome. My slow cooker beef stroganoff is pretty damn tasty.

I tend to agree when it comes to flavour JD wins hands down. But over $4 for a can? Although I do have two massive bottles I got duty free recently. And I have to crack my blue label JW at some point. Got to drink that straight up though

You have good taste, only I go for more tender cuts, such as rib eye, scotch fillet ect....
Also for the people who think medium rare is disgusting, well i eat my steak rare, would not have it any other way.

I did two 500g rib eyes still on the bone last weekend. BEAUTIFUL! I buy whatever looks the best at my butcher at the time I'm there. He always has some decent thick cuts.

I can eat rare through to medium. That's why I always aim for medium rare, cause I can go either way.

I've got some lamb shanks in a stew in the slow cooker today. Make some garlic mashed potatoes tonight when I get home and crack a bottle of red. YUMMMMMMM!

Oh, I made a mean carpet bag steak a few months back. I got the butcher to cut me 2 fillet steaks about 2 inches thick (and about 600 grams each) and slice a pocket in them. I stuffed them with smoked oysters, got the frying pan red hot, seared both sides, took them out, wrapped in bacon and cooked in the oven for about 30 minutes. I couldn't get it in my mouth fast enough!
