    Default Pre-Workout Snacks/Drinks

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knew any good snacks/drinks that would aid me with energy for my workout? I'm not this fitness freak or something so I don't want Pre-Workout shakes etc. I'm after something natural and not so expensive. I hear Bananas and Yoghurt are good to eat before workouts? and also should drink 1/2L water before workout.

My body will get used to the training, but at the moment my body just dies. My training is 1Hr Jujitsu, 1Hr Kickboxing and 1Hr Mixed Martial Arts. I usually crash mid Kickboxing and even sometimes bail before Mixed. Energy isn't the only reason I bail, my muscles ache, my quads still hurt 2days later. I have a protein shake after my workout. Also sometimes before workout I have teaspoon of Creatine & water, but have never felt any different lol. During workouts I also drink Powerade sometimes instead of water.

I don't eat the right foods during the day/night either, generally eat crap. Trying to fix that but that's harder than eating more. I'm not fat, 172cm and weigh 64kgs.

I just want to know what foods & how much I should eat to power me through the 3hrs until I get home for dinner. For instance, 1 regular Banana & Xgrams Yoghurt?

Before footy I usually have a banana and about a litre of water, sometimes might have a muesli bar or two aswell, seems to last me the hour/hour and a half i train for.
Edit: I'm a bigger fella than you two, 6 foot and 100kg

searching the web as we speak.

    AskMen on Energy Boost.

    Number 6: Yogurt
The magnesium in yogurt can give you an energy kick for your workout as it activates enzymes that are involved in the metabolism of protein and carbs. It also provides the explosive source of energy used for lifting weights. Therefore, yogurt is a good choice before both cardio and weightlifting sessions.
What to eat: 8 ounces low-fat plain yogurt.

Number 8: Bananas and other fruits
Although it is widely believed that the sugar in bananas can make you fat, it is actually a very digestible form of carbohydrate. Furthermore, bananas are packed with potassium, which aids in maintaining proper nerve and muscle function. Since your body doesn't store this nutrient for long periods, an intense workout is enough to make your potassium level drop. Apples, peaches, pineapples, and grapes are also good choices for an energizing snack.
What to eat: 1 medium banana

Suppose chucking em together would be a start.

Mind you, I'm not a smoker, druggy or alcoholic.

I eat a lot of crap though, living away from home now 2. Leave house at 8am (for work) and get home at 9pm (from training).

Isn't there proper food anymore these days? all there is is Shakes?

to stop the muscle soreness after a workout, water and magnesium powder, then some more water + loads of stretching.

When I mentioned Drinks in the title. I meant things like... Tea or Milk (don't think milk helps) or Powerade or watever.

What the douche is magnesium powder? XD I thought whey protein was to help muscle growth and recovery.

Edit: I see, Blackmore have a Magnesium Powder.
    - Relieves muscle cramps and spasms
    - Supports the production of energy during exercise
    - Prevents magnesium deficiency
    - Maintains cardiovascular health and healthy function of the nervous system

Edit: But once again, I wanted a solid substance. I dont want to be taking Creatine, Whey Protein and Magnesium every day.

Pretty much why I eat a banana. Also, Them muesli bars with the yoghurt on top. I'm pretty sure that grains/muesli are pretty good before a workout.

I heard things with lots of carbs give good energy? Pasta, cereals, etc?
Correct me if wrong. Also as others have said, bananas, water, even yoghurt with muesli, powerade during workout would all help.
I used to have bananas and powerade/lots of water before playing footy and it generally gave good energy boosts

Now that's better. Ye Ive read Pasta and Cereals and Lentils are good, unfortunately I go from work straight there and can't get any of those kind of things.
I'll go buy some Bananas, Yoghurt and Powerade tomorow.

Recon it's bad if I have - 1x Banana, 1x Yoghurt, 1x tspn Creatine w/ water, then Powerade during workout and Whey Protein after workout then Dinner? Nothing can happen with Creatine and Whey Protein right?

I thought bout having protein before workout but I'm not actually goin to the gym - Just doing Cardio work, sit ups, push ups etc. So I'm not destroying my muscles that much. I did hurt my quadriceps on Monday most likely from Full Lunges and they still hurt today!

Eat every 3 hours spread your protein and carbs over the day, dont hit it in one large hit. Drink half a can of monster. Drink some protein revive after work out.

Personally i like a little bit of chocolate before. litre of water before and throughout. Then SLM protein milk afterwards. You have that 40-60min window after exercise.

Full meal 1 1/2 hours before training. eg 200g chicken, 200g brown rice, cooked in olive oil.

30mins before training 30g Whey protein.

directly after training. 30-50g Whey protein, 60-100g dextrose (sugar)

1 hour after workout another full meal. eg porterhouse steak, 200g sweet potato, flaxseed oil.

Thats what i eat and it works for me. You shouldnt have energy issues if your eating the right foods throughout the day. If i feel alittle tired i have a white tea 30mins before training.
