Clarkson umpire 'pushed and punched': man charged | Perth Now.

This story is just a sign of things to come. Its really sad when umpires, like myself, become afraid to make the correct decision, or a decision at all for fear of their well being. Parents, spectators & players like this need harsher punishments or to be made more aware of how hard it actually is to be an umpire.

I know supporters & such get frusturated because we don't pay every call, but what they don't understand is that we can't see every call. Two people on a full sized oval watching 36 kids, plus parents & other officials (runners, waterboys, goals & boundry umpires etc.) Its a lot harder then it seems.

This being said, does it call for an umpire to get bashed because a parent or player disagree with his decision? I go out every Sunday, FOR THE KIDS, so they can play a game of footy. Not so I can be called "pathetic" or threatened by parents.

Now I know not all parents/supports are problems, a lot of parents come up and thank me for my efforts and tell me that "They'd never have the guts...."

Well if thats the case why is it 20% of parents have to argue, abuse & apparently beat now too.

Please understand out job is tought. You wouldn't want someone standing over your desk all day calling you pathetic would you??

I'm sorry mate, but when I saw the Header "Clarkson Umpire" I just laughed. I used to play for the Quinns Bulls and I remember nearly every single game would get heated between the parents and the umpires, most of it was all in good fun. The treatment you got, isn't acceptable, it's a Kids league, it's not that serious (sometimes not serious at all). Most of the kids just want to go out there and play a game of footy with there mates, when parents get involved like that, it's just disgraceful. If they're really that passionate about the game to go punch up an' umpire, why don't you they go play in the colts or something?
