    Default GPS in-car help

    Hi,

My gf wants a GPS for her birthday. Looking at spending about $200-$300.
I've been reading a lot of reviews and a lot of these GPS are crap.
Can you get a decent one for my price range?
I've read that the TomTom's for that price aren't very good.
I've found a Garmin Nuvi 1450T just over $300. So far that's best I found, from reviews anyway.
She only travels around the city (not directly in the city (I know some gps lose signal cus of buildings)).
I like the newish ones where it's got lane guidance feature. and Red Light/Speed alerts are good too.

    Can anyone recommend one?

    Garmin's are pretty good units

And as an extra bonus you can easily add your own voice onto the Garmin's using their Voice Studio software to tell your girlfriend where to go......
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?

I have a Garmin 1390T, the traffic gadget is quite useful. It doesn't often have issues finding its way around, and the projected arrival time is unbelievably accurate, within 1 minute on a 3 hour drive, taking traffic into account. Occasionally it can lose it's way in the CBD, but generally it's pretty sharp. I got mine for $240 from JB a few months ago.

    Schweet.
Guess I'll have a look into the Garmin range and see where I can get a good price.
She'd only use it when she goes babysitting at night to find the house, generally on the outskirts of town.

Sounds good. How accurate is the street numbers? I've heard some GPS aren't very good at getting the right house number (not big issue I Suppose).

I suppose that's one thing that could be improved, the ones it does know it is quite accurate to place, but it is missing some. For example, putting in 41 XXXXXX street, it will ask you if you want XXXXXXX street in general, 46 XXXXXX street etc, but it won't have 41 in it. Usually it will be one number either side, as if they only have numb ers for one side of the road.

Ahh k. That don't matter. As long as it gets her on the right street. She still has eyes XD Might check if JB have any specials or Dick Smith.

Easiest bday present ever! Wish she'd always tell me what she'd want - would make life easier. Usually she wants bloody jewelery! & she won't settle for a pearl necklace

I have a Tomtom and quite like it, I did use a Garmin recently overseas and think the Tomtom is better.
