Just as the title suggests. I'm 18 now and fairly sure i'm moving out into a townhouse with another guy in six weeks. Keen to see how old other people were and how you went with all the bills etc. At the moment my budget has everything covered but without much money spare until i start my new job.
Cheers.

i moved out of home when i as twelve. but i went to a foster home so that doesnt count :P. be conservative, have short showers, keep on top of bills, dont use unnecessary power, keep the house clean and try and ratings in case you need a new house, new location etc. the more work you put in now the easier it will get. split the bills 50/50, not a ill pay this month, you pay next month, because then there will be arguments.
set rules, which is against everything you want as a younger person. put money away each week to go towards bills, unforeseen problems. say you pay 170 a week for rent, put away 240 a week or however much you want. try not to fight with your house mate, you will have bad habits, as will he, just need to find a happy medium.
i moved out when i was 18, then i moved back home, then i moved out about 6 months later for about 9 months but left the job i was in so i again moved back home. currently living at home im 20 i want to move out but ive got it to good at home :P oh and im poor.

Thanks for the info guys. The other guy i'm moving in with is 24 and i've known him since i was 12 so thats a plus, and he is neat and tidy, keeps everything clean etc which is a big plus.
I'm selling my motorbike because there is no where to keep it at the new house, so that will give me money for the bond etc and some money in the bank in case of something going wrong in the house. So trying to cover all bases etc before i move.. which i think will be six weeks.

Paid my parents bored of $100 a week from the day I got a job. Moved out when I was 19 into my first house. Buying was cheaper than renting! Bought a three bedroom double garage place in Canberra and the repayments were $210 a fortnight. That was in 1999.
Now I'm onto my forth place and the other three are nice little income earners.![]()
I moved out when I was 20, I actually moved interstate at the time also; I think I have been back home for a whole two weeks since then (not all at once thank god), I am now almost 27yo. My advice would be as above, put extra money away, keep the place neat and tidy and keep on top of bills; I'd also highly recommend cooking for yourself as it's much cheaper and healthier than eating takeaway.
CSP's advice is also an option if you can afford it, think long and hard about it though as owning a home is a fair big commitment at 18 (also I can image house, and repayments have gone up significantly since 1999).

Moved out when i was 19, purchased a block of land and rented for 2 years whilst saving and then building our first house.
move out when i was 18 and moved to the goldcoast (came from down nsw)

Moved out at 19, Can cover all the bills, But only just, But hey better to have your own rules and your own stuff![]()
Moved out of home to another town 300kms from home when I was 17, the very next day after my last HSC exam
I was 18, moved 500km away from home to UNI. I did move with my girlfriend at the time (should have left her by the side of the road on the way there but thats a different story LOL).
I didnt have a job, mum was paying $300 a fortnight into my account, plus my GF's aus-study. At the time mum and dad earned to much for me to qualify for aus-study so I had to find a job and earn $14586 or something stupid within a 6 month period to qualify for independence allowance. In the end i got that and got an $87 pay rise to rake in $387 a fortnight. I was also working part time at a dairy aswell for some extra cash. Was tough but was good.
You just need to go with the bare essentials until you can get yourself sorted, dont try and live beyond your means. Set a budget and stick to it. Dont be afraid to hit the garage sales and vinnies stores to scrape together some furniture to begin with and then as the money comes in you can save to buy newer nicer furniture if you want.
Hang on, you got a pay rise to "rake in $387 a fortnight" but wasn't $300 of that just being leeched from your Mum. Why on earth would you move out if you can't afford it?
Moved out when 15 and it was sweeeet! Still is! Just make sure whoever your moving in with isnt a pain in the A$$. Any little thing that your mate does that irritates you will increase tenfold when ur living with someone!
Good Luck
Well... I move out of my parents place when I was 21... though it was straight into my fiancee's (gf at the time) parent garage that I converted into a granny flat.
I turned 25 last June and am planning on starting to build my own place beginning of next year. So I will be officially moved out when I'm 26... kinda sad, but it's allowed me to save up enough that I have a big deposit and by the time it's built I will have enough to by myself a nice car outright.
So the pain of living with the future in-law's will have been worth it.![]()
I moved out at the age of 20 to live closer to work which moved to another area of the city
I'm still 21 and still at home, looking to move out next year hopefully, when im on more than 500 a week and can actually afford it LOL
Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast
Officially moved out when I was 20 and pregnant lol had no reason to leave beforehand I had my room set up in a converted garage and boyfriend (now hubby) had a granny flat at his folks.
moved out and went to qld when i was 18 i had $98 in my pocket after the flight and i spent $95 on a skateboard lol so i had no money no job but i had the best time of my lifei don't know how I'm not dead or rotting in a cell for the things i did to get money to rent a house and get on my feet after about 6 months i got a real job and stayed for 4 years. but sadly everything good must come to an end i moved back home in October last year at 22.

I moved out at 23, but went to the east coast up in cairns. Was there for just over a year with the gf at the time.
once i moved back to perth i couldnt afford squat as i had no job n just spent a few thousand gettin my shit back here including my bike so i moved back in with the folks.
Since then prices in perth skyrocketed so i have been savin for a house untill march last year. Was almost killed in a bike crash, 9 months in hospital, lost me job still no working so im guessin another 24 montghs before i can get set back up again.
But in sayin that, while i was in qld i put 60 a side each week above rent so i had extra for when bills came in![]()
I moved out when I was 16 with my boyfriend (now my hubby) into a 3 b/room unit. I was only earning just enough to manage to pay my half of everything so we ate at home and always put money away each week so the bills were paid as soon as we got them.
i didnt move out i was kicked out by my dad wen i was 18, he said"were not running a horr house here, if you wanna have girls in and out of here all times of the day then get your own place", So i packed up my stuff took my 83 buick regal, 83 fleetwood cadillac, and my 75 granada, and got my own place the next day, times were rough, eventually bills were paid, i started my own powdercoating business at 19, and havent looked bak. I used to hate my dad for that , but 11 years on and ive got my own house, family, and 4 cars of my own "PAID FOR", i now see why he did that and thank him for it everyday, I LOVE YOU DAD, LOL, now its my turn and im sure my 2 daughters are going to give me 10 fold as much shit as i did him, but i learned alot of good and bad points in life and i dont think i would be were i am today if he didnt do that, Thanks dad, have fun moving out mate, enjoy every last second of freedom while you can,LOL

I moved out when I was 18 and started a 2 year tafe course/traineeship. I rented a house straight away with 2 other people. I was getting $100 week from centrelink, $100 a week from the traineeship. My share of the rent was about $150 week, which left me $50 for food/petrol/bills etc.
Had to work at Pizza Hut every night delivering pizzas for about $300 week so that I could afford to pay my car loan (which I got after my car died, to keep working at pizza hut). Then people moved out and didn't pay rent/bills, etc.
To this day I still don't know how I managed to survive and had enough money to go out once a week, and still able to pay all bills.
Never moved back home.
