Hey all,
Lets say in a hypothetical situation that I am on my greens and I buy a V8 in dads name & insurance & i'm secondary driver, however lets say that in this moment in time there is one work car on a business name in his name & i don't have any cars in my name and no one else in the house has a drivers license.
So lets say we buy the car, I then complete the paper work to say it's the only car in the house and i should be allowed to drive it, the RTA should then give me a permit on the V8 car, correct?
So lets then say that down the track say in 2-3months some other cars get purchased? does that then mean even if it's not in my name that i'll get the permit revoked? or how would they even find that out say if they pulled me up for some paper work?
This has been on my mind for a while and I just want to get it cleared up.
EDIT: Lets also say i didn't want to wait till i'm on fulls.
EDIT 2: I did actually get my L's still when it was 80hrs, if that helps, and no i haven't had my license taken off me.
Thanks.
sigh... just wait till your off your P's man , soo much less hassle
I'm up for the hassle, so back to the question![]()
If they V8 is the ONLY vehicle in the household then you should be able to drive it, I'd assume if someone in the house got another car in the future that isn't a v8 you would have to drive that from then on.
But I am pretty sure you can only drive the V8 to work and back so you don't get any freedom anyway.
youll have to bring the papers with you everywhere you go, and if they dont believe you and the cop is on a bad day he might find somethign else to hassle you about the car. Also if you keep going with that or claim it aint a v8 , they pop the hood and your f**ked
So lets say your my ride field says you got 3 cars. Now i'm curious why it says you got 3 cars when you say you got no cars lol.
1. you'll never know if you don't try.
2. if you get an excemption, or don't, and are a good talker and know your stuff chances are you won't get in trouble if pulled over...
3. if you hit a 500,000$ car, truck or take out a traffic light control box of equivalent value, the insurance company will send you a copy of this thread attached to the "we are not paying out" letter![]()

if you are an apprentice mechanic you can get a permit that allows you to drive v8's etc for work purposes testing cars n stuff.
to get one like how you want it i think sleepa was right with the only for necessity driving. and even then you would probably have to tell them of the route you are driving like when driving an unregistered car. because you do not have a full licence you are classed as a hazard. stick it out for the long run.. i waited and waited driving around shtbox excel turned 20 bought my car and have not regretted it well worth the wait.

buy a clubby, put chev and ecotec badges on it, cops will think its a try hard/faker.
Hone your driving skills on a V6 and buy a V8 when can legally drive one. I dont get the desperation to have a V8 straight away.
LOL I remember when I got my license- no stupid L and P plates had to be displayed and you could drive what ever you wanted.
I don't know why you are so desperate to drive a V8. If every other P plater has to wait to drive a V8 then why shouldn't you? If you are that desperate to have something that goes as quick as an 8 I suggest you either wait like everyone else till you are off your Ps or buy a nice V6 and mod it.
You can try and get a permit, they should give it to you if it's the only car possible for you to drive (but they don't have to, remember that).
My mate is on his reds, his dad owns a company and an SS ute in the company's name. My mate's name is on the payroll, and he drives it wherever. He's been pulled over a few times, he just has a signed letter from his dad stating that he is, in fact, an employee of the company, and that he does need it for work. He's always polite and courteous also, and has never gotten in more trouble than that.
