It is actually an offence for which an infringement can be issued, unfortunately not many highway officers issue tickets for it. Its one of those things that if a few people put along in the right or middle lane (when its a 3 lane highway) it can completely stuff the flow of traffic.
Education is needed and operations targetting drivers who break the rule need to be run. Autobahns in Germany flow well because the traffic is monitored and drivers are well educated. As a result they flow well, its a different story here, people just sit in what ever lane they want at what ever speed.
WTF! without even the luxury of a "passing lane" around here, and slow drivers being in plague proportion, i wish i had that problem of idiots not keeping left, cause if they done that here, there'd soon be a head on collision, and i bet they wouldn't like that.
Old people and truck drivers seem to be quite good at sitting in the right lane. They sit side by side of the vehicle in the left lane doing the same speed, very infuriating. This morning all the way up South Road for miles I had a truck in the right lane next to a coach in the left lane, both just sitting on 60 with a mile of traffic behind them.
A few weeks back a bus going up Cement Hill gets in the right lane to overtake a truck in the left lane but couldn't. Both did 50ks an hour all the way to the top in the 80 zone. When the bus finally pulled in at the top of the hill I got next to him and fully abused him, he knew what he had done and looked very sheepish.
Indeed, some buses do 30 - 40ks up cement hill, banks up traffic like a major crash scene.
What sucks is when say a bus in the left and a car in the right lane, both cruising at or under 60, the bus brakes and so does the car in the right lane? kinda same time for no reason.... which of course makes everyone else banked up behind them hit the anchors...
dont speed and it wont annoy you i highly doubt if somebody is in the right hand lane that they are ever doing 5 kms less than the speed limit.
its not about speeding, bit hard to speed when traffic is banked up and congested thanks to count 'em ONE driver holding everyone up 10 k's under the limit...
Not really there, but anywhere... if a bus brakes in the left lane (for its own reason), the car in the right lane seems to feel the need to brake as well... hard to explain but i see it all the time..
crapelaide must be a bad place(im likening it to sydney traffic lol)
because where im from (2 hours north of sydney) there is free flowing traffic wherever you go whatever time.. ts great.
You don't have this problem in Europe. Also speed limits in most areas of Europe are 130km/h. It's much safer simply because drivers do follow these very simple road rules. It's actually much nicer to drive on highways over there than it is here and if you read the road toll statistics on highways in Europe, you will also find they are much lower than here in Australia. I totally agree with AntonioWH2 on this one. I can understand there may be situations where a driver cannot pull into the left lane, but in most cases that isn't the case. It's either they have absolute no respect for other drivers around them or they are genuinely stupid. From reading this thread, it's generally the people attempting to find excuses to stay in the right lane so to speak are the ones that cause the issue in the first place. If someone wants to break the law and speed in the right hand lane, it is not up to you to sit in the right hand lane to slow them down. You will most likely be the one to be causing a dangerous situation rather than preventing it.
"Nonsense, this is the kind of coverings what we humans wear at this period of time. I'm quite sure of it."
See my ride here
A few weeks ago on the hume hwy, 110k zone, a truck was in the left doing 80 and so the truck behind it decided to overtake this truck... just at the start of a massive hill. So he pulled out at 80 in front of a heap of cars going 110 then proceeded to slow down as he climbed the hill, we ended up doing 60 and nowhere to go as the bastards were right next to each other!
I don't care if people don't do the speed limit in the right, just as long as they are passing a car on the left at a reasonable speed and pace; not just sitting there holding up traffic.
last week had 3 cars driving side by side at 90, annoying when my cruise was set at 100. I had to wait until another lane was added to pass them, and it was an on ramp that I used. Then I reached an 80 roadwork zone so I slowed down to 80 and what do you know, they come flying past me. The zone ends I go back to 100 and get stuck behind all 3 again.![]()
Be like the idiots up here. Using the old unless it's over 80km/h you don't need to keep left - aka you must sit in the right hand lane!. Driving down the main drag with is 60 / 70 zones; they can't outdrive their IQ so they are limited to a max of 50. Everyone in the right lane doing 50 and not one car in the left lane. And when you pass them on the left they give you dirty looks, that you are not allowed to overtake on that side. Same applies for intersections where you have a merge into 1 lane after the lights. This is taken to mean that the left hand lane becomes a compulsory left hand turn only lane; and they basically try to run you off the road rather than merging.

yeah actually that is another good law in england, trucks and busses are banned from the right hand lane. they use either far left or center only to overtake. and the cops issue tickets to them all the time.
(lol at this thread still going)
