That telstra bill could be their undoing... If you report it to your bank as fraudulant, can their fraud dept (who work with police) possibly chase it up and find out whose name the bill is in etc?
That sucks royally though mate. Im always worried that will happen to me one day as well and am super careful with my credit card

Call the bank NOW you can't take your time with this, Telstra require a drivers license or at least address when accepting a service, Your bank will notify the police and it will be resolved very quick.

As said, call it what it is, fraud, and get it sorted. They paid bills, there is always a paper trail.

Sadly you don't need to use your card over the net to have the number captured. A waiter in a restaurant can jot it down, a salesperson in a store, the kids working in fast food outlets. The list is endless. Only way to stop them is not have a credit card.

You need to report this to your bank, if you haven't already and hopefully they can wipe out the debts.

Let us know how you go.

Thanks all...i have already rang the bank who put me through to the fraud department.
Bottom line is we still have to make the minimum payment..no big deal.
Could take up to 8 weeks to get sorted.
They also said its possible they walked into a telstra store with a manufactured card copy and purchaced goods..not payed for accounts.
Highly unlikley we will find out how it happened tho

Had a similar problem with my ANZ VISA debit; initially ANZ were quite helpful, but then it turned into a bit of shit fight... End result, I am still chasing my money, and I've now transferred all my banking needs to another institution.

Totally agree with Sash on this one. It's always best to just not have a credit card. You can just use a Visa Debit card for phone/internet purchases. They can get your card number plenty of ways. Been a lot of media lately regarding people working in a business getting paid to give out credit card numbers to crims.
