Hi all, I know there is gov documentation on this but I prefer to hear it from someone who's done it.
I've been looking at the BMW 3 series as a possibility for my next car. I notice that you can save up to $7000 getting one from over east. But is it worth it?
From those who have done it, is it worth buying from over east and registering it here? I'd also need to get it transported, not drive it.
im guessing youd just pay freight to get the car here then re register it in w.a? even if u hav to take it over the pits it shouldnt be much for that, but freight could be $2k or something i dunno how that works
if you are coming over to buy it you can catch the train back with it.

Hey mate, have had quotes recently for a vehicle on a truck to be shipped from karratha (600km north of perth) to brisbane for 2k. These rates were cheap as you would have to wait a couple weeks for a backload and would take approx 7 days in transit.
Obviously its the reverse of what you need but prices would be similar. Should also be cheaper as karratha is in a pain in ass area.
Not sure of truck company's name off top of my head but if ur keen i can find out more for you.
2k is cheap for transport, i drove the 6500km's in a 6L VZ Clubby from brisbane to karratha 3 years back. Took something like 6 days, 60 hours (on road) and 600 something litres of fuel. Not to mention 6 nights accomodation if ur not keen sleeping in your car. Friggen expensive!

i reckon the train idea would be the way to go, get a cheap 1 way ticket like tiger? or something then get the car put it in the train and cruise back with it while hittin the piss hard to pass the time
cost $1500 to transport a car from Wollongong NSW to Kalgoorlie WA around 2 years ago
What about registering a car here? Is it quick or an annoying process?
how doing a bit of research for yourself instead of asking for information that could be wrong this took me all of 2 secs to find its really not hard
Interstate or overseas vehicle
If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money
I've done it. If you are saving upwards of $5000 it is well worth it. It will cost about $2K to get it transported, then whatever the inspection fee is to get it transfered to WA rego. You can get around the need for an inspection if you have a legitimate garaging address in the state that you bought it. Keep it regoed in that states rego for 12 months then transfer it to WA rego. But a lot of the time the inspection fee and transfer is cheaper than 12 months rego and CTP in other states.
