Seriously... Can I have some of the drugs these morons have obviously taken.
Ambrose number one
Fixed the link for ya
Anyway...he is a dick, but I have to admit - he sure as hell can drive. I still wouldn't say he's "the best of the best" though.
Don't take me the wrong way he is a good, maybe great driver,... greatest ever??? I think not, especially never winning at Bathurst.
LOL, how can a driver be voted the "best of the best" without winning at Mount Panorama?
Ahhhh NO.
On purely championships and round wins it would have to go to Scaife. (I don't particularly like the guy but the records speak for themselves). What are other peoples nominations?
Note it's V8SC era only and does not include Group A and earlier.
Reaper
Wouldnt know anymore - dont get to watch to much of the V8 supercars.
Just lost a little interest in it last few years as nothing much happens.

For me, it would have to be Mark Skaife. Multiple Bathurst winner, multiple championship winner, most round wins. Need i say more? In his last couple of years he obviously faded a bit, but i believe that was due to what was going on behind the scenes with Tom Walkinshaw. In the endurance events he is still showing he can drive a car and still be competitive, had he got rid of all the pressure on his shoulders before he retired he had more left in him IMO.
He would be closely followed by Craig Lowndes though.
I lol'd when i saw it in the mag. Infact i was almost in tears thinking it was april fools in september haha. Then i saw they were serious.
Ambrose is an awesome driver, the best, close, but not quite (leaves the series when his teammate stole his opportunity at a hatrick of championships).
In regards to the comments of him putting the car on pole his first race, winning your first year like lowndes is a greater achievment.
Have to say skaife is the greatest (and continues to prove it with last years bathurst result, in a team that wasn't considered anything special...)

For me it would have to be Brock...9 wins at Bathurst.

Meh, I guess you could say I've been done for PUI.(Posting Under the Influence - I guess I've had a bit to drink

Why is it that ford idiots constantly need reassurance that they are good or the best or someone to at least tell them that so they can believe their own propaganda.....avesco has been pampering them for the last decade...what do they want...ambrose? ...s'pose he had the balls to go US but as far as the best...maybe hes one of them .....but NOT the BEST
This is my vr that I rebuilt ....CLICK HERE to see my vr on Cardomain

How can he be considered the best?
Everyone else manages to win without running people off the road.
Never heard of him
I think he was one of the great V8 Supercar drivers, he rarely made mistakes and had a remarkably high percentage of race wins.
However, a lot of credit must also go to the team he drove for. Stone Brothers were probably one of the best teams period in V8 Supercars. Not only did they build their own race winning cars & engines, but they built a lot of the top level Ford team cars & engines. So I wouldn't consider Ambrose as THE best V8 Supercar driver, for sure one of the best though
Not exactly v8 Supercar but Moffatt gets my vote. smoothest, gentlest on machinery, yet blindingly fast. First GTHO win at bathurst, the ford teams used his wear rate calculations for tyres. Moffatt made full distance, the rest of the ho's didnt.
Second would be Gentleman Jim Richards, third would be a little known feller my the name of warren luff.
Skaife is the best V8SC driver by a mile. A year out of racing and he was still on pace over the weekend, pretty good effort if you ask me. First time i have watched a V8 race since he retired.

LOL, i to would say Skaife if you were to limit it to the V8 SC era. Amborse was lucky because he was in the best car in the field at the time. the mark of a truly great driver is one that can win with a average car. when ambrose was in traffic he was shit and just pushed people of the road (just like the rat)

Yeah exactly.
It doesn't take a great deal of skill to punt people off the track.
Damn straight Minux....I don't follow Triple 8 racing, but man was it good to see them win yesterday with Mark Skaife as a co-driver. Bloody brilliant effort. A lot of people don't like him, but hate him or like him, he certainly knows how to drive a race car.
Marcus Ambrose always was a dirty driver, if he wasn't at the front he'd just punt his way through the field. He was very, very lucky that most of the time he had a very good car under him.
Ambrose is top notch. in his time he was the best by far. but over the long haul it's got to be Moffitt, Johnson, Brock, Skaife championships/endurance wins.
