    Default Myt combustion engine

what do you guys think about it?
I havent heard too much about it lately

For those that have not heard about it, go watch some vids on youtube, this thing is a marvel of engineering with a power/weight ration of 40/1

if people wish to have a bit of a read.

If they can back up what they claim you'd have to see it to believe it. But with the birth of hydrogen cars is this 20 years to late?

Not too late.. If they could give me a combustion engine as big as a lunchbox with 300kw+ that gets me 100mile/gallon i reckon i would be in heaven

hydrogen power will kick its arse when honda finally decide to release it properley. internal combustion engines are a thing of the past.

Not 100% sure as i havent the time to check right now,
But arent hydrogen fuel cells to be used in conjunction with the current layout of combustion engines, just not using petrolium?
If thats the case then using the fuel cell with an myt engine is going to be better, tho went wont fuel with petroium when using a hydrogen engine i heard the cost of fuel will still be about the same..
I could be wrong and it wouldnt suprise me lol
I will check into it when i have the time

I saw on the news that Hyundai are going to start mass producing by 2012

honda started developing theirs in 2001. their prototype was just plain awesome, but the cost to build and the cost to fuel meant that they put it on hold until the market caught up. their latest version is here:
Honda FCX Clarity Overview - Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle - Site

the prototype is actually an electric car, no combustion involved. it creates electricity by passing hydrogen particles through catalysing plates which adds oxygen and creates a current, which powers the electric engine. the only by-product is hot, pure water.

its funny actually, the first one had to have a noise device added cos' they were worried that pedestrians would be killed due to its lack of noise.

the biggest problem that hydrogen faces at the moment is the costs involved to produce it as a fuel. currently petrol is DIRT cheap to pull out of the ground and distill, so there is no way people are going to want to spent (potentially) 20 times the price for their fuel until petrol starts to either become more difficult to obtain, or taxed through the arse. im guessing both of those options are not too far away.

Hahaha that honda engine better have its "exhaust" flow up into a drink fountain for me to have a nice cold drink

But like you say, very expensive, i do wish this myt engine could fill the gap between now until hydrogen, maybe just a pipe dream tho

you should check out: Quasiturbine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia slight changes to the wankle configuration are nothing new.

i think you will find that the MYT gets a lot of its power figures from the fuel it uses. whn you start talking about alcohol as a fuel, you start talking some reallllly high horse power engines. so comparatively a 2.6ltr 4 stroke tuned effectively to run on alcohol would be on par with the myt, but ill bet the reliablity woul be much better for the 4 stroke.

    interesting to keep in mind:
Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg has announced details of a new variant of its 806 bhp CCX which will run Biofuel. Due to the fact that the biofuel has higher octane and better cooling characteristics, the power has gone up 25% to 1018 bhp at 7200 rpm and torque is up 10% to 1060 nm at 6100 rpm, compared to the “standard” CCX’s 806 bhp at 6,900 rpm and 920 Nm at 5,700 rpm.

quoted from here: Flower Power - Koenigsegg's 1018 bhp biofuel-burning CCXR

But myt still beats all with its power to weight ratio :P
Our best jet engine today is 20/1 lol the myt doubles that.. Insane when you think about it

However, if @TDC, the piston is allowed to stay for a longer duration, it will burn a greater percentage of the fuel and air mixture in the combustion chamber until oxygen or fuel theoretically runs out at the end of the power stroke, thereby totally completing the combustion process and drastically lowering the exhaust temperature at the end of the exhaust stroke

this makes me laugh 12 degrees of crank rotation before the piston moves to make it efficeint so it sits there with a big bang on a cylinder with nowhere for the pressure to go generating no power to the crank so by the time it moves most of the energy of the explosion is allready over

    very valid points also.

plus lets not forget the overall strength of this thing. im no structural engineer, but i would love to see something that size delivering power to a 3 tonne load without breaking. i give it 80 hours.
