Well, i've just heard on the radio that new smoking laws will come into afect from today in Western Australia.
All those selfish people that smoke with young children in the car, are now no longer allowed to, neither are they allowed to smoke at the playground, or on the beach and a few other places mentioned.
WA's tough new smoking laws on the way to upper house
It's about time i reckon, it's not fair that i should become sick or run the risk of dying due to smoke related disease just because someone enjoys doing something that can kill them.
If i wanted to die from smoking i would not have quit 7 years ago..........
Doing something coz you want to do it is your business, but when you bring other people into it, especially children who trust you implicitly...........then it's a whole new game to play.

There's two ways to look at it. Firstly, a little bit of second hand smoke occasionally is not likely to kill you. Chances are, you're killing yourself more quickly by eating poorly or not exercising. But, that's not really the point.
It's more about whether or not a smoker should be allowed to force their lifestyle onto those around them, which they shouldn't. They do make it difficult for smokers sometimes, but hey, that's the cost of continuing to smoke. It's a destructive practice with no benefits for anybody except GovCo, so it shouldn't really have allowances made that inconvenience the people who decided not to take it up. Although I suppose, with Australia's track record for making allowances for minorities, it's somewhat surprising that they don't tell the public to suck shit and hold their breath.
Someone I went to school with fulfilled every preconception I had of her. Maybe they were unjustified preconceptions, but they certainly were accurate. I predicted that she would have a kid before she left school, and that she would make a shitty parent. She gave birth in the end of year holidays just after finishing year 11. I now regularly see her driving around with her kid in the back seat, she with a smoke in her hand. What a surprise![]()
i think most of these rules are fine, (dosent really effect me, i dont have kids or go to the beach! lol) people do have their personal space, but the not smoking in the car is a rule that should have been enforced a while ago, i dont wont to see a 5 year old hacking his guts up because he's mums chain smoking. most non-smokers think they'll die of cancer if they see a cigarette aswell.
Breathing in second hand smoke is worse than smoking dude, as you are also breathing in the crap that is exhaled from that person, which all of us breath out.
Ask any doctor that question...............
Years ago we used to breath out smoke in someones face and that was construed as "OMG he/she wants me" as back then it was the "sign" that someone was interested................how stupid we all were.
The amount of people i know that have died from smoking, weather they smoked themselves or went and breathed in other peoples smoke.........it's a tragedy.
I have nothing against people that want to smoke, couldn't care less if you did smoke, just don't make me breath it in.
Again it's the whole respect thing huh? Whilst out in public try and blow it up in the air or away from others, not directly at them or int he group you are in........
What happened to the good old "respect"???? Have we really fallen that far down that it's harder and harder to find nowadays?

I got nothing wrong with smokers, you want to then fine just stay the hell away from me. I get really bad headaches when I breathe in someones second-hand smoke, even Panadol doesn't make it go away and it can really ruin my whole day.

My father is 74, fit as an ox, still works fulltime, bush walks, rides a push bike at a cracking pace and has only been in hospital once - last year to have a simple eye operation.
He grew up in a small flat in London with 4 chain smoking people.
Point is it's never had an effect on him.
The most important aspect is diet and exercise, shit being in heavy traffic is worse for you than smoking

Been smoking for near 30 yrs...and enjoy it. HOWEVER
Most is just common decency....i wont smoke around those who dont.
Personally i think they need to give us smokers a break.
Its well known that alcohol is by far the worst offender...
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR RAW HORSEPOWER !!
While you do make a valid point, the difference is that alcohol in moderation isnt harmfull whereas any amount of smoking is harmfull.
Silver Certified.
Again I agree though people who drink in moderation dont generally commit the acts you mention. Its more likely those who abuse alcohol that do.
Silver Certified.
Let's hope they don't ban smoking during sex otherwise i really will have to slown down.
Bout damn time
I honestly dont care if people smoke but I choose not too so therefore dont bring it into a public place where I can be. As for smoking in the car with kiddies that should of been enforced years ago.
It must have come out wrong lol, everybody breathes in and out, it's what you breath out that is harmful, and when you smoke and include the breathing out of the smoke, it's more dangerous for someone else to breath it in.......i can't for the life of me remember what it's called, but it has a certain name for it.
I have no problem with other people smoking, that is none of my business, but it really shits me when people have absolutely no regards for their or toehr peoples kids...........they are the worst sufferes in this whole thing.
if you are a smoker and are fit as a fiddle, then good for you, you've side stepped the illnesses of smoking, but not alot of people are lucky, and as you get old, the symptoms start to appear more and more. But again everyone has a choise and what you shoose will eventually make your lifestyle.

I am a Smoker, If Anyone else is in the car, I dont Smoke, I dont smoke while im at work cause it offends people & the smell that comes off you after. I dont smoke around other that dont smoke, Cause why should they have to put up with it, and if theres kids around i go a long way away, Just lucky my wife is a smoker as well so we get along lol. I like to think im fit, Can do everything just fine, Mow the lawn that kind of thing,. Im no athlete either but really how many of us just go for a sprint everyday? , just enjoying life as it is. only live once so enjoy it or it will enjoy you lol
I'm happy that this law has come in. Personally, I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke. Although my mum smoked most of her life, we have friends who smoke and I used to smoke about 22 years ago. It's a lifestyle choice, and for those that do smoke, I have nothing against you. I just find it hard to accept why young people insist on smoking when there is so much information about how it affects health. These same people drink 'diet' soft drinks and won't eat greasy food because it's 'bad' for you....I don't understand their logic.
Smoking in confined spaces where non smokers are should have been banned a long time ago. Smokers who do that are in a sense, forcing their habit and choices upon those who don't smoke. Fair enough it may be the choice of non smokers to go there in the first place, but in a car with kids? Children don't have the luxury of choice when they are strapped into a confined space and the parent/driver lights a smoke. These same people, most of the time, will not smoke in the car with a non smoking adult out of respect, but they don't even consider their kids. That is what I have an issue with. If you want to play Russian roulette with your own life, go for it, but don't risk the health of others, especially children, by smoking in a place that they can't avoid breathing your smoke.
I was like edals when I smoked some years ago. I went to lengths to ensure I was away from people when I had a smoke, it's annoying when you are at a BBQ outside and a smoker lights up whilst standing next to or near you - go down the end of the garden away from everyone else.
I used to visit friends who didn't smoke so the entire visit I would refrain from smoking at all as there is nothing worse than coming inside reeking of cigarettes, it can be quite offensive to some.
If I was in a commercial building (restaurant, office block, hospital etc.) I would walk well away from the entrance and make sure as above, I was not near other people, unless they too were smoking.
When I finished a ciggie I would always have a mint and wash my hands. Have you ever shaken the hand of someone who has recently had a smoke? Your hand stinks too.
Just common courtesy really.
Bahahaha you smoke while having sex? I thought people smoked after sex not during.
Queensland bought in the no smoking in cars while kids are in the vehicle not long ago. About bloody time! Some parents just have no regard for their children.
Dunno why so many smokers winge about the laws. You wanna damage your own health go for it but everyone else shouldn't have to breath it in as well. It's just common decency, though there seems to be a lack of it these days.
