All I can say is, 'not again'. I'm sitting here watching the new Top Gear Australia (channel 9) and I keep thinking 'why?'.
Why does Australia feel the need to copy everything from overseas? Ok ok, an Aussie Top Gear does not sound bad on paper. I've been looking forward to a show that road tests our cars here with some added fun. But the characters had to try and copy the British guys again... just like the last mob who failed on SBS.
Even the stunts were pretty much the same as the UK version... the safari challenge for example. Also, their on screen persona sounds so scripted. I know the UK guys are scripted to but they pull it off smoother.
I also cant believe that they actually lost control during the 'Rhino part'.
I know I sound negative, BUT I do have hopes it will get better and be more originality in upcoming episodes... and for goodness sakes, dont put the Falcon against the Commodore and tell us 'they are both as good as the other' (we know which ones best anyways :-).
PS
Its better then the other crap on TV at the same time so I'll watch it a few more times to see what happens.
I Totally agree with ya mate, Leave it to the brits, cant beat May, Hammond and jezza they are just to ####ing funny lol
My Fav so far is the Motor Home challenge and jezzas 3 story apartment building lol
The original is the best. While its scripted they do allot of improv
You're not missing anything. You just get this massive urge to headbutt the lot of them
they should show how the VE SIDI smashes the FG xr6 on one of the episodes![]()
Kuzman's Supercharged SV6 - MACE TUNED
only decent thing i can see from it, is seeing some of the commys in there. other than that the 'actors' are terrible and the original is just a pisser, and the show shouldnt even try to have other country versions![]()
i watched it tonight and was bored to death until jezza came on hahah
i went to the live filming of the first episode of aussie top gear ever made...
it took 4-5 hours and it was boring as batshit on a wall... even the lambo unimpressed me.
they were so lame they kept stuffing up their lines and the audience would get in trouble because "we were not laughing hard enough" at their crppy script read jokes.. they read the script put it down.. fail.. then do it about 5 more times..
man... omg.. that was sooo funny.. when it fell over.. i nearly died of laughter because i just did not expect it.
So much negativity.
New season, some new people.
Give it a chance or don't watch it at all.
No one is holding a gun to your head.
I watched it and honestly, that was some seriously bad acting!
It was 100% over dramatised, not funny and the characters just have no connection to each other.. It was a massive try hard.
Gave it a chance and i probably wont watch again, just really isnt up to sratch to carry the name.
aZk.
I watched that episode last night... wet myself laughing when one of the guys at the end said to the other "Mate... you got blow off by James May" in reference to the Rally Stage loss.
Seriously? How did that little pearler make it into the scripts?
nor can the brits.
even Top Gear UK isn't much of a car show. None of the presenters have any technical knowledge, constantly get everything wrong. They spend far too much time talking crap and carrying out absolutely pointless tests. Might get one decent car test in an entire episode. They get their hands on the latest Ferrari and instead of testing it around a racetrack or against a similar sort of car they race a hot air balloon or something similarly stupid...
Come on guys - it's not that bad!
I like the original better, but the Aussie one isn't too bad IMO. It's still better than anything else on at that time, so I'll still watch it.
I went to the filming of the first series too and I quite enjoyed it. I also went to the filming (just a couple of weeks ago) of the Channel 9 version and I must say that while the live audience experience was better when SBS did it, I think that Ch.9 have done a better job with the show itself (shock horror!). They showed us some unseen highlights of the new series while we were there and it looks pretty good!
I was sceptical about the Ch.9 TGA but I think they've done a decent job. Just watch a few episodes - you'll see!
I think the involvement of the UK hosts helps - almost as if Jeremy, Richard and James have given TGA their blessing...![]()
I quite liked last nights TGAU. Certainly much more than the first series.

I've watched the UK one, but not our one. Don't watch a lot of TV, so I doubt i'll ever get around to it either. I spend most of my days reading, and exercising these days.
Last night's episode was just a marketing ploy to boost tv ratings for the Australian edition. Hence why Jezza, May and Hammond were involved.
"Nonsense, this is the kind of coverings what we humans wear at this period of time. I'm quite sure of it."
See my ride here
i think he was very nervous as he and the other young guy (dont know names) stuffed up quite a bit.. the jazz musician guy only stuffed up 1 or 2 lines. he was much more confident.
they know ALOT more than they are letting on. james may is an engine wizz.
i tried to get tickets but by the time i found out they were all booked when i enquired.
i did really hate the first time i went with a passion but i also think i expected too much and when i was going to go back for this season i just didnt care.. more wanted to be there for the sake of it than for something good.
i don't watch any aus tv shows they all piss me off hardcore and make me yell at my tv in frustration
Top Gear AUS (and the other local copies around the world) are at the behest of the BBC as part of the licensing agreement to show the UK series. I have my doubts if any of the local networks would try their own version by choice. From some of the bits I saw last night it had it's moments but still looked staged to me.
