if you's arent aware the uci is some bike race, thats in geelong for the week, now this is sorta getting to me, they've blocked off half of geelong, its giving me the shiits, if you want to go to ocean grove or something you have to take some big and completely ridicules route to get there, and all i can hear right now is the sound he helicopters overhead filiming this bullshiit race. any other members from geelong that hate this?
How dare they bring tourism to Geelong *shakes fist*
dude it aint doing anything for tourism atm.
wah wah wah. It is making BUCKETLOADS of money to local business. I know a few photographers all booked as media crew, motels are packed, local cafes are doing cracking business.
Great event for geelong and was just down there earlier.
Lookign forward to Sundays race!!!
Cadel for World Champ 2 in a row.

half the shops around geelong have shut shop for the week, not to mention even tradies have taken the week off cause they cant get to job sites without a 2 hour delay
but meh doesnt bother me, i get to work and home the same, plus work is dead at the moment so gives me abit of time to catch up on other work.

i have printed some yellow ribbons will be handing them out in norlane
Governments crawl up the arse of big business, the small fella can like it or lump it...
its just pointless blocking off the roads so they can ride on them
boss sent me home at 10 yesterday, and was ment to work today but he told me not to bother. so thats me missin out on extra coin.
Cycle racing is a world wide sport. In much of Europe it is even bigger than motorsport. A good example is the Tour de France. Australia was fortunate to get this years World Championships and it will be a great monetary success for Geelong and Victoria in general. Just because you don't understand it or support it doesn't mean that it is not a great sporting event.
I wouldn't be having too much of a whine about it; im sure its doing wonders for alot of small business owners and brings a bit into geelong; plus how often does this happen a year? I'm sure the people of Geelong will survive.

it isnt affecting me but it certainly is affecting businesses such as target and elsworthy retravision, apparently target only made $500 in sales thursday and elsworthy plan on sueing for loss of income or some shit like that
lol the bogans couldnt max out their cc's. Boohoo. While those greedy bastards made #### all, a friend of mines cafe has had the best week ever since opening. They can barely keep up and have had to employ 6 extra casuals to cover the week.
No one would expect target etc to make money, Norlane and corio are blocked off so people can't get there.

im pretty much trapped in newtown man, a real pain.
yep, i understand that cafe's etc are gunna benefit for the week, but not everyone owns a cafe. how many people are gunna travel down here to see the bike race and buy a set of brake pads or a tv or anything else that isnt food or drink. theres more than one type of business in geelong, and i can guarantee that theres been more of a loss than a gain out of this bike race.
it wouldnt have been such a problem if the main street through the middle of geelong wasnt blocked off. thats what ####ed everything.
as for your norlane and corio comment, i would have thought that you'd know kmart is closer, so they dont travel into town anyways.![]()
^^^ When does anyone go to a tourism event to buy ####ing brake pads or TV's? Do you buy these items when you go on holiday to queensland or France? Torquay was booming all week, clothing shops, cafes, motels, restaurants and other general shops were also doing quite well. The way Geelong was shown to over 400 million people was nothing but a positive. Talk i heard while down there shooting yesterday the tourists loved the place and will be back again. How the hell is this anything but positive?
This is why Geelong is known as the bogan city, #### tourism, #### the rest of the world don't block our roads off or we will whinge like little bitches. This event was the best thing to happen in a long time, the hype it generated worldwide will see it making revenue from tourists for a long time.
Anyway, had a ball down there yesterday, loads of great people, brilliant race. A few shots:

nice shots minux. had a ball down there, great event.
Was good hey, people were all friendly, no drunken idiots and so close to the action. Felt for the boys going up "heartbreak" hill in Highton, i struggle to do it once, let alone 11 times lol. Was great to see someone like Thor Hushvoldt win as well. Cadel put up a bloody good fight and did himself proud as the reigning world champ.

thats my exact point, no-body does, clearly you didnt understand what i meant there, cafes and clothing stores arent the only stores open for trade, try living your life as a tradie when they block off the main road through geelong and its a decent hour or two in a traffic jam each way! im not saying it wasnt a positive thing for geelong tourism but they could have used their heads a little and made the route easier for the people of geelong to get through, rather than having to detour for a few hours each way. ridiculous! either way its over now, thank ####!
it was good. i was there on saturday and i thought it was going to be a disaster as there was almost on one around, but sunday was great. when cadel responded on the last lap i got goosebumps, i thought i was going to present for one of those defining moments in aussie sport, but he has done really well regardless.
omg cycling what a homo sport...always a heap riding on the middle of the road....hate that... no wonder there hit all the time...
