Is it just me....or is it really hard to get back into the workforce once you lose your job?
I've applied for so many jobs...its ridiculous...and people are like eww get a job..
and the worst thing is out of alllllll the jobs I've applied for i only heard back from 4...
it never looks good on the resume sacked from last place of work. plus it hits you in the gut pretty hard, and that comes out in your disposition.
A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.Advertisements contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper.
I guess it all depends what line of work you are in . I'm 53 years old and have been retrenched from 3 jobs in the last 5 years and the longest i was out of work was about a month which was my choice. I work in transport and storage and have had a forklift licence for 23 years . I just register with employment agencies and get work no problems . Some jobs are pretty crap but in the end it pays the bills. The one i have now is good and will be put on full time after Christmas.
Just stick at it and something will turn up , Good luck
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
yeah just keep at it persistently, my missus had the same problem she was unemployed for ages and then spent a whole month of solid day after day applying for jobs, and it got to one stage where she was getting 2 or more interviews a day, and now shes happy with the job she found.
If you just keep trying, youll get some calls back, also speak to recruitment agencies or something see if they can help you out and even fix your resume etc.
yeah i been trying...its just like noone is really lookin at the moment or something...im only young i'm tryin to get into a trade..preferably plumbing
and everyone i rang wont even put me on as work experience...
i wasnt sacked from last job...the boss went bankrupt
im waiting to hear back from one place so crossing my fingers![]()
The trouble with putting people on for work experience is the cost of insurance. I know how it goes...its a bitch finding a job these days. I'm an IT grad trying to find work...it seems that if you don't have a mountain of commercial experience or a transcript with all HDs nobody really wants to know you. All I can say is keep applying and good luck!
yeah man i know!! lol i think we all need a bit of luck at the end of the day...
the trouble is this country... its so hard to pay for your cost of living so everyone looks for jobs they are either totally unsuited for or completely unskilled for, and then they wonder why employers knock them back.
bring on some better wages for pleb jobs and plebs will be able to earn a living again. right now its like everone is pretending to be someone they are not, just to keep up with food/bills. whetever happened to the "simple wage/job/house out in the outer suburbs? that idea has now become 'working in frankston and living in pakenham'.
f. that.
ive been outta work for the past 18months due to a bike crash and severe injuries, the last month ive spent lookin for work but got bugger all responses. Every job ive held ive had great references and was there for a min of 2 years.
But now noone wants to know me so i feel your pain mate
I have noticed, if you currently hold a job other companies want you, if you dont then they dont want to know you (most of the time)
When I was at my old job I got nearly every job I applied for (looking for a second job while I was on a break from uni)... Then when I quit I was unemployeed for 10 months.
All I can suggest is look on job agency web sites aswell, I came to the conclusion there would be less people looking at them sites then the traditional seek and my career etc.
Thats how i got my current job and it will keep the bills paid until you find a better job![]()
I hear all the fast food and supermarket chains are hiring. Also loads of taxi jobs. There is heaps of unskilled jobs going if your willing to stop snobbing them. A job is a job after all. I am yet to hire anyone who has come to an interview unemployed. No motivation for them to work in low end jobs while looking tells me they have no desire to work hard.

At the OP hey bro dont know what kind of work you have done but get yourself a forklift ticket an you will never be out of work again i find that there are jobs going all the time that require you to have a forklift ticket i also have a couple of other tickets as well like a HR (heavy ridged truck) an EWP(elevated work platform) but the forklift is the main one i find people are looking for . May cost you a few hundred to get the ticket but once you have it you will always find work.![]()
Take it easy...But do take it...
Do not argue with an IDIOT.
He will just drag you down to his level an beat you with experience.
Some people take me the wrong way, Like smacking up Marijunna.
I was made redundant from my position 5 months ago and have found it almost impossible to find good stable work since. I worked in pharmaceutical manufacturing, which slowly but surely is moving offshore so my 15 years experience in this field is becoming useless!
I have applied on seek.com and career one etc for hundreds of positions that I could do easily and have lots of experience in but get no replies at all. I have a great resume, loads of experience in many fields and have worked/lived overseas in high pressure positions but still the agencies still won't help at all. Lucky for me a guy who was made redundant the same time as myself has hooked me up with a position at a company he is working at now. It's not the sort of job I'd usually do but it will pay my bills for the time being.
I applied for a position at the tax dept in Sydney, had my phone interview and then was told I lacked the experience necessary for the position so I thought that's ok and moved on. My girlfriend also applied and made it through to the next interview. (although she's 10yrs younger and has no where near the experience I have..?) When she attended the 2nd interview I was suprised to hear of the 20 people being interviewed there were 10 people fresh out of school (16-18yo and have never worked) and the other 10 were made up of indians and asians whos english skills were horrible at best so the interview took an extra hour due to the questions having to be asked 15 times over so they could actually understand them!
I have no idea what experience I 'lacked' nor what experience they were looking for in the first place?? Sadly for me it was a very cushy well paid government position that would have been nice at this stage of life!
I think it's more a case of who you know and not what you know these days!!!
Thats the key. It doesn't matter so much how good you are at your job, but whose "good books" you're in. I've known people who are hopeless at what they do, yet they've just walked straight into jobs simply because they've known the right people.I think it's more a case of who you know and not what you know these days!!!
How do you work a full time job AND attend interviews and search for another job.
Its fuggin hard mate.
Supermarkets are great for youngins starting out, no arguement. But if you've got a family you will not earn enough to support them, but earn too much for centerlink to help you.
Ari was right in that people aren't paid enough for the bottom end jobs to survive. Hell even most trades barely pay enough to get by unless you keep training to become a mechanical engineer or some such.
Probem with that is, you always need the practical tradesmen around to actually DO the jobs.
i have work coming out of my arse atm...
i work 40 hours a week at kmart.
weekend club work as a security guard..
passed all tests and on the waiting list for railcorp (will be advised mid november) (then i will be upgrading to a train driver)
and have an interview for chubb as a armed guard cash in transit officer...
AND AFTER ALL THIS I STILL DONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY!!!
did somebody say greedy ?
Depends on wether or not you don't have enough money to piss away or enough money to buy food every week.
You're lucky to have a constant 40hrs at Kmart.
yeah and its on casual rates too. it is also 4pm - 12am so i still get the day to get out in the sun
i also dont drink or smoke ever
i am only 20 and have dreams of making my car extremely fast and owning many houses.. i have also been looking into a few small businesses for some extra cash.. could turn big.
and if your thinking.. mummy and daddy helped me along.. think again.. i already have more worth than both combined due to my hard working nature..
but also in job interviews you cant say stuff like that as you look like a wank.. you have to be cheery and happy and pretend you have great customer service skills...
hate when people say 'there's no jobs anywhere'
go get your forklift lice, loader lice, bobcat lice, truck lice, scaffolding lice. i know people who are screamin for more people like this... theres even plenty of job goin on in the mines that all pay good.
i lost my old job sellin trucks last year when the market was shit. within the first 4 days off i had a new job, didnt apply anywhere or even hand in my resume. i was just sittin back and got a phone call. i dont believe in job agencies or any of that unless its a government job. its who you know and if your willing to work that will get you hired. in the next coming weeks i plan on gettin my full heavy truck licences and start driving for my old man.
If you come from a less the well to do family it is legitimately difficult to get out of the cycle.
i disagree.. if my family had money i would not have learned the value of a dollar and would not have designed myself a dedicated saving scheme and full budgeting.
but because my entire life they always scrapped the barrel for cash (dad worked in the spare parts trade mum looked after the kids) that i developed these skills as not to put myself in this problem in the future.
dont have any contacts or anything it was done by persistence and motivation. which i lack none of.
Didn't say its impossible.
But it is hard, I've been there done that.
Its hard to GET to work when you have no money to put fuel in the car.
Its hard to work when you have no money for food to eat for lunch.
And its just as hard when all your meager earnings (and i mean every last cent) goes back into petrol to get back to work the next week.
That's how it is for some people, beleive it or not there are young kids out there working 40hr weeks for less then $200.
I earned $170 a week during the first year of my apprenticeship and the wage hasn't moved far in 6 years.
It cost me $120 a week for rent and it cost $75 to fill my car.
Steve I know what you're saying and agree. But It isn't the easiest thing is it?
